Fished Sunday at Alan Henry and only caught one fish! I'm no guide but, my Son and I fish A.H. weekly and usually do pretty well. But man... we just couldn't find any fish. Four bites, only caught one. The water was very dingy after all the rain. But the water was 65...April.... come on! We didn't see any beds, not one. We moved out to places leading into areas that have held spawners for years and slowed way down. Downsized. Very frustrating.

Sorry to hear that. Was a real nice day Sunday, infact I had a real good weekend. Most people are catching a lot of spotted bass on shacky-head jigs with watermelon candy Zoom trick worms.

I'm right there with you Alan Henry Guy, fished about 3 hours Sunday afternoon and only had 4 bites. Different lake than the last time I was down. Fished April 15 in the rain and caught 20+ spots and a few large mouth. Hope this weekend is better.

Its called barometric pressure, those bluebird sky's can really make it tough, especially after the sudden change and the storms before. It will pick up for you.just keep at it.

I appreciate the condolences... I'm going back Fri and try again. Obviously I should be fishing shallow but anyone have a recommendation as to which area has been most active?(main lake vs major creeks vs midlake verses river) We pretty much covered it all Sunday (except the river)so I'm really not sure whether if I should turn right or left when I leave the boat ramp! Man that's sad. We have had some great days in April before. I can say I did not fish a shaky head worm though. Thanks for the comments.

Well, the poor fishing doesn't suprise you!!
Hasn't the lake been going over the spill-way for a few days now?

Yea it has. But, historically new water hasn't been that big of a problem there. But that was a huge rain and it did muddy the water. Hopefully I can post after Fri. that I did a whole lot better.

Alan Henry Guy, I will be going down Friday when I get off work and fish Sat and Sun. Let me know how you do. I have only been down 3 times this year and fished main lake twice and up the river once. Lots of spots on the main lake.

I went Saturday and Sunday for my first time and had a blast catching those spots. They fell short of the 18" thing for keepers, but everyone of them had some attitude. I also caught a couple nice LMB too, I was throwing a shad colored spinnerbait. I was fishing the Little Grape creek area, from the banks to 15'. everyone I meet there was real welcoming and friendly. I'm looking forward to spending more time on that lake in the future.
I was told anything white, cranks, spinners, buzz baits etc. also shaky-head jigs were the most commonly used for plastics.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

It was a tougher weekend than normal. When the water gets muddy, the fish tend to get shallower than normal. Main lake pockets and mouths of coves (where they should be spawning) worked okay pitching baits to the base of bushes for some decent largemouth.

The spots get more and more abundant every year. If you focused on them, I bet you could catch 60+ some days and 20+ just about any day.

Man they are more abundant, and they are all over the lake now. Used to be only the main lake but now they are all the way up the river. If I could go out and catch 100... no... 50 spots any day I could die a happy Man. Never had those kinds of numbers. By the way I have a son that goes to Tech. Appreciate the information Man.

Alan Henry can be brutally unforgiving. We went out on sunday and caught 11 altogether. We had a pretty good day considering the conditions. The dingy water and high level killed some spots that were turning on before. We had luck up river in the morning and caught some in the clearer water in main lake coves in the afternoon.

The question now is....how long will it take for the water to clear back up?

Good question. Will really hurt the sight fisherman. So you caught some up the river? Man it looked like chocolate milk just half way there. We fished some little pockets a ways past gobbler and it was so muddy I lost my confidence. 11 is a good day. I'm doin something wrong.

Yeah, in fact, most of our fish were caught in the chocolate milk. Crazy, I know. Think bright colors and slow presentations.

My co-angler is gonna kill me for sharing too much lol. He gripes like an old woman! shocked
