I fish alot for cats but i have never used soured milo before as chum. I have a batch rotting in the backyard and i was wondering how do you know when its ready? its been sitting for 13 days and smells like something dead.no yeast has been added

yeast doesnt have to be added... is it fermented?? Are there nasty bubbles on top? With the hot sun we have been having lately it could very possibly be ready. Not a sure way to tell if it is ready or not... you will just know.

You can fill up a container (milk jug) then cut some slits in it and sink it to the bottom to concentrate your chum to a specific area...I suppose a more ecofriendly method would be using a mesh chum bag, pantyhose, etc.

Rule here is the "CRUST",that nice black moldy looking crust
of goodness.
Once the crust forms its stirred down and allowed to crust again

Then its ready!! bare skin "tingles" when the juice is applied.
Soured chum has a flavor about it,if yah get the heeves over a bucket of chum ya really need to visit the local market for your fish. LOL!

Are the neighbors or police banging down your front door...its ready!

I usually use bread baking yeast, strawberry jello, water and milo and never had any not ready to go in 6 or 7 days time during the summer. Spring ..might need a couple days more. Mine always has bubbling gases and foam with black mold as described on top.
Oh...Do not toss out up wind.
If you do its a one time lesson. hammer

One more thing leave a little in the bottom of your bucket to kick start the next batch when its time. Ferments even faster.
