I started the day out leaving the house at around 2:00 to head out to buy bait because I was feeling lazy. I dont know what I was thinking because I usually catch my bait out at fairfield but I was taking a friend out there for his first time and wanted to get right into the action.
We got to the lake at around 5:00 and I caught a few more perch to add to our colection. After catching bait, we headed out to a small cove where I knew there would be reds and cats and sure enough, first cast, we both get hits imediately. Second cast, nothing and both of us had dead perch. Third cast, nothing and we start to think about what the problem is because once again, my perch are dead! Finally I stick my hand in the bait water to see how it feels, I wasnt thinking and the guy that sold us the bait ended up putting 70 degree water in with the perch!(lesson learned, Kept all the perch in large Ice chest) I have tons of fish tanks in the house and know that just a few degrees diff. in temps can kill fish. Well, needless to say, i fished for three hours with dead bait and me being dumbfounded. I would have noticed the mistake earlier but I wasnt catching bait, my buddy was. That sucked!!!!! Finally we head back to shore to get more bait and GOOD 102 degree fairfield water! What a start to a trip but this was just the beginning! Finally we get bait but by this time, it is around 9:30 or so and we wanted to be in kind of early! We head back out and this time, we get bites but I guess I just wasnt all there today! On my first cast and first bite, I never put the reel into gear, so I am holding my rod and all of a sudden, the spool starts spinning real fast, needless to say, backlash and fish is gone. Believe it or not, I did the same stupid thing again but this time I landed a good size cat. That was fun and I thought it might be a turning point but boy was I wrong, things were just going to get worse!
My buddy was still fishing up front and was getting tons of hits but he doesnt fish often and was having troubles. The only fish that he did catch ended up swallowing his hook and made for an easy hookset. He caught a 6lb bass and was very happy but said it fought like perch. lol... He is use to catching saltwater fish, as he likes to head down to the coast whenever I get a chance.
Finally, we run out of bait after catching only three fish and we head to shore. My buddy gets out and is walking around the boat ramp and bust his butt, that gave me a good laugh but didnt make the trip any better.lol..
Finally, we load up everything and get ready to head out but while doing so, I had a rod out and caught a 4ft gar. I was going to set it by my buddy who was sitting on the small pier(joke) but right as I was pulling it out of the water, the gar fell off. Another thing gone wrong but it was just a prank.
Well, its time to go and we get the fish out to be cleaned and we lay them on the ground, right next to us. Needless to say those sorry coons came out and stole our fish in a matter of seconds, we couldnt believe it. We went looking everywhere for our fish but no luck, those things are fast. They took three fish, two big cats and one big bass. The WHOLE FISH! UNREAL.
Well it was a wild trip and I will not be making any of the same mistakes again. I fish out there often but have never had any of these problems. If I hadnt had my head attached at my shoulders and neck, I probably would have lost it!
Other things that happened on trip: We had to get a our car jumped because I left the lights on the car on while we were out fishing and we also missed our turn on the way back to fort worth, so we ended up in dallas. It was a bad trip and I will be sad till my next outing.
Sorry for all the bad typing and spelling but i just had to get this off of my chest. My goal was to catch reds, not have problem after problem. We had a good time but couldnt believe all the **** that went wrong. If u guys see a couple of really fat coons next time u are out, u know how they got that way. Cya and hope u guys have better luck than we did......BAD BAD TRIP! bang hammer Could things have been any worse?

Just found out that one more thing went wrong! I ended up leaving my fillet knife on the cleaning station! I went to go and find the fish thinking that the coons couldnt have carried fish that are that big, that far but they did and I forgott about my knife. Oh well, things can only get better.

Wow ,I havnt had a trip that bad in a long time(knocks on wood). Fishing is not always easy. If it was, imagine all the wingnuts that would be out there.

Could have been worse,
you didn't have any flat tires,
no one siphoned your gas,
boat motor didn't fall off into the lake,
no tornadoes.

Tough day pie, but I bet it still beat workin'. What you need to do is get right back out there. If it makes you feel better I know a guy who had just bought an all weld center console. After a day on the lake he dropped off his passengers to take the boat out and "see what it could do". He had it on plane out in the middle of the lake when the boat came to a sudden stop and all was quiet except for a few bubbles popping at the surface. It was a long swim back to shore especially pulling the now row boat.

Flip 4 it, are you saying his outboard fell off?? Did they forget to bolt it on, or did he hit a stump?

As I recall it was a clamp on type motor that no one had bothered to bolt through the transom or at least attach a safety chain to. Rattled loose and gravity took over. That will ruin your day.
