Got a late start Saturday due to the storm front that moved thru. Launched at Galveston Bait Camp at the base of the causeway( live shrimp was avaiable there $16 qt). Fished between the causeway and railroad bridge, water was chocolate brown, picked up 5-6 Gafftop to 4 lbs. Bite slowed down, made a run to the reefs around Harborwalk, one rat red, lost a bigger one at the boat( broke the 20lb leader, shouldve used a new leader, forgot to change it out on that rod from the last trip) and a couple of stingrays. Decided that the wind had laid down enough to make a run to the jetties. Long run, but friends new boat needs the hours to break in the motor. At the South Jetty, started pickin up Gafftop again in 15 ft of water, put a cut down one side of a 6 inch live mullet to let it bleed and maybe pick up a shark, after a short wait, something pick up the bait and after clearing all the other rods, set the hook and the fight was on! 15 min later, boated a 41 inch bull red! Set out another bait, this time 5 in live croaker, bait was picked up, but i didnt wait long enough for him to eat it...set the hook and after about 10 seconds he spit it out...Sunday, on the I45 frontage, saw a white and YELLOW flag next to a truck with a bait tank on a trailer, way to go BOYDS ONE STOP! Live Shrimp $15 a qt, plus Live Croaker, Launched at GYB, tried the Jetty right off, a couple of Gafftop, nothing else after about an hour, left and moved to the ICW opposite of the Ferry Landing, hooked into a big Black Drum on live shrimp (45 inch landed on 12lb test, took about 5 minutes), moved down past Sievers Cut, one Gafftop, decided to call it a day, and while running past Sievers, smelled the telltale joy of Watermelon...pulled in and proceeded to catch....more Gafftop! All in all a fun trip, but wished we couldve found the elusive Trout..
