Was on the water today on EM and the dang thing started beeping at me afetr 5 minutes on the water. I shut the engine off and waited a few minutes and turned it back on. No alarm, so I gunned it to my honey hole and right before I got there the beeping started again. Shut it off, fished for a half hour or so and started it up again to head back to the truck (didnt want to push my luck, but it looks like I did).
Half way there the engine just went from running like a scalded pig to almost an idle. Gave throttle and no increase in RPM. Stick it in neutral and threw the lever up, and it idled high just fine. But it wont go any faster than 10mph.
Got it to the dock and killed it and used the trolly to get it on the trailer, but not before I tried starting it one last time. No luck! It tries to turn over, sputters, and dies. Please help. I'm not sure whats wrong with it but any help would be really appreciated.

Sounds like running hot or oil injection not functioning, which, will make it run hot. Is there water coming out of the tale-tail? Some sensor has shut it down to idle.I'm sure the pro mechanics will be along.

Mine does it when the rpm's max out and I think, but cant remember for sure, its called Guardian that shuts the motor down to prevent damage. Was told this by mechanic at Triton dealership.

Thanks guys.
Hunter, I hadnt run it again out of the water for fear of hurtin it further. I had a hard time trying to start it when i was back at dock and I just didnt have the heart to keep trying.
Texan, I can see how that would work. So my confusion now is that I really hadnt had the throttle down all the way when the thing went out on me. Does the mechanism also prevent the motor from starting up again?

I am not sure on that excact motor, but some sensors might need to be reset. Might need a pro to troubleshoot it. You could try to start it on muffs. The sensor may have reset itself. But, you still need to find out the why part. If it will run, I would make sure you are pumping water first thing. That system id made so you dont hurt the engine, so I dont think you smoked it, but you never know.

Might be and oil problem. When mine got low on oil the motor would only go to 2000 RPMs until I added oil. Yours sounds like maybe a restricted hose feeding the container under the cowling. Sounds like it can't keep up with the usage. Don't know for sure.

Thanks guys. I really hope that when it did go into guardian mode it prevented any serious damage from happening. Talk about frustrating!

If it is a carbed motor. You have low oil in the small reservior under the cowling. The engine is doing a shut down to prevent you from running completely out of oil. Yeah> It's doing what it is suppose to. Remove the cap on the small reservior and fill to the top. Should do the trick.

Also clean the pickup screen in the main oil tank.

Well fellas, looks like you all were right about the guardian mode shutting down the engine before any real damage was done. I dropped a couple hundred on a new impeller cuz apparently thats what the 'issue' was. Mechanic says the old one was shredded. So I took it to the lake last Sunday and guess what? "BEEEEEEEP"....not even 2 feet from the ramp. I tried to crank it a few times and quit when it sounded like the battery may be going dead on me. Mechanic now says it could be a low voltage alarm because one of my batteries wasnt holding a charge. Is this possible? Also it was peeing just fine on the lake, and then took it back to the shop, hooked up the muffs, and the peeing was intermiitent. Alarm still goes off. I mentioned what I read somewhere on here that it had to be 'reset' but he said he hadnt heard of anything like that. Any suggestions? You guys have been a GREAT help so far.
