If I didnt have more important things to do (daughters first birthday) I would be at Purtis Creek Lake. Dave, Have stayed at the State Park? We are thinking about going on May 21st, and curious how crowded it gets. Looking at the map there doesn't appear to be many sites right on the lake to beack the yak. We won't be getting there until 2 - 3 of the Friday. Any suggestions on the camping is appreciated. Other option we are weighing is a return trip to Fairfield, but like the idea of seeing a new lake and targeting large bed Bass in the late Spring.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Me and my fishing partner went to Athens. Caught 15 LMB all below the slot. My partner did catch a nice 2 1/2 lber.

[quote=Daveg99] Dave,

I think the only sites that you can beach a yak at are the walk-in primitive types. You can pretty much paddle up to all of those, but the park n'tent and sites with hookups are situated back away from the shoreline. The loop for the primitive sites is like a mile and a half maybe total, so sites A - E are really close to carry your stuff in. You could load up the yaks with everything and paddle it all across from the boat ramp if you were so inclined... But if you're doing the rv/camper thing the sites are not directly on the water. Went last Saturday and today (Sunday). Got there each time after 1pm and both days were windier than the forecast so it was tough until about 530 or 6 pm when the wind laid down, then the bite started to turn on until 830 when I had to get back to the truck and get home to Dallas. Saw less than 10-12 pbs on both days combined. Here's a few of the fish... Both days I caught a lot of smaller ones that I didn't take pictures of. Nothing world-class to the yak but lots of action along the primitive campsite shoreline right around dusk. Today in particular I had lots of bites and at least three powerful break offs (12 lb test). Gonna try 17lb test next time or maybe tie straight to braid. Sorry for the picture quality... Crappy camera phone. Hope to upgrade that soon. The first one was a little under 5...
