How about a rebar loop in the conc.
Run you rope through the loop, so you keep both ends of the rope as it is lowered. When it get to the bottom, let go of one end of the rope, (to free it from the rebar loop) and pull the rope out.
How well do those show up on sonar?
A stabilizer jug might help there too. (?) I have a wire loop attached to the middle post on each unit. I am not sure it shows up on the pics, but there is one "picket" centered in the bucket and situated more or less perfectly vertical. I intend to do just what you suggest via that loop.
