I am going to ray roberts for my first time. We are going to stay for the weekend at Johnson Branch Park. I will have a boat to fish out of does any one have any good tips about the lake?? Is it difficult to run due to trees, stumps etc are the boat lanes marked good?? What type of baits to fish? Thanks

I dont remember seeing any boat lanes up there so just be careful. Might be best to follow someone who has been there a lot through the treed areas.

Look for grass between spawning coves and somewhat close to deeper water, or creek chanels.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help, only been there a few times and am sure others can give you better advice.

Be very careful running on Roberts it is full of timber, especially up around where you are staying. I wouldn't go much over idle speed if I didn't know exactly where I was.

As far as fishing spots go, head east and stop at the first spot that looks good and it probably is. Look for a Red Barn.

No marked boatlanes. Be careful north of the island.

Pick a creek on the east side of the lake and fish it. They should be turning on good out there.

Water is stained to muddy. Fish are shallow and some on beds. Use bright colors or darker ones. Some are chasing shad so the topwater bite should turn on soon. Good luck.

Water is muddy right now, at least it was yesterday. Indian probably has the clearest water, but since there are no boat lanes it would take you forever to idle over there. Since you are staying at Johnson, I would shoot across to Sandbranch. That place is like a lake in itself.

I could be wrong or just lucky, but as far as trees go, Johnson is pretty wide open until you get to Wolf Island.

There are a lot of stumps just under the water line so be super careful.
