Fished Dam area today, 1st time on lake...water temp 65-71, only caught 6 keeper size bass, on buzzbait, crankbait and shakey head.
Really couldnt get a pattern going....does anyone have any advice to lend on this to get more size/numbers in the boat.
Heading to box canyon area Friday...should I expect more of the same?

Thanks for your help

Jim

grandpa caught 18 keepers, biggest at 5#, in less than an hour with a yum money minnow swim bait. I don't know any other detail other than that.

For numbers try a senko. Haven't been getting much on the quality department.

Take a right after you launch and head up river. I like up past mm 17 taking another right and hitting all the creeks and cuts you see (I prefer Mexico). Throw a wieghtless senko-type, 5 inch watermelon/chart worm (t-rig or wacky) at the banks and bushes. Fish it slow, letting it drop and twitching it up occasionaly. I can't imagine this time of year you're not going to get tons of 1/2 to 3lb fish. If you want more size, move out on points, humps snd creek channels deeper and throw cranks, jigs, etc..

If you were throwing at the dam, I have never had any luck and I've come to the conclusion Amistad bass don't orient to rip rap. Also, you'll see strait vertical cliffs, I pass them by (see rip rap).

Good luck.

Wacky rigged trick worm in watermelon/something. Throw it into shallow cover and pay real close attention. The bites are light, but you'll get a ton of them.

Go into Cow Creek. There were a bunch of small keepers in the backs of the pockets this past weekend.

Went today and had issues with the batteries so we had to drift all day and could only manage to catch them on senkos and swim senkos. Nothing to write home about though.
