Don't buy the generic ones from Academy, they are cheaper for a reason, eyelets fall out after just a little bit of use. I've made no mention of the hell/pet as of yet, fish are either too shallow or too deep for my liking so will continue to catch them on slabs until water temp get too high for a good slab bite. Then it will be party time.

Academy is now selling the real ones from Heddon with no hooks by my house. Next time you are on pool, ask Howell "pool" Dodd.  He usally has a few poles on his boat set up & ready to go.

If you dont want the vintage ones, ill take them, the smaller ones work awesome trolled by themselves without a trailer.

So why do you take the hooks off the hellbender? I guess I missing something here but is the HB just used to get the trailer down?

Does the Academy in Plano have the Hellbenders???
I also echo the question about the treble hooks on the hellbender. I took them off last summer so I didn't have to mess with getting the hooks in my hands wrangling with sandies or hybrids.
Does anyone ever catch any fish on the hellbender itself when you are trolling with the hell/pet combo?
I don't trust a catfisherman who doesn't have shad scales on his hands or his reels...period.

i never have hooks on the hellbenders....tried it, got hung a few times....they sell the with out the hooks...when I could not find those, i just took the hooks off. I view the hellbender as a vehicle to get the petspoon down to the depth I want it.

I know the Academy in Austin has Hellbenders, but they recently re-orged and now they're on a different aisle than the Pet Spoons, so look around a bit.

Does color on the hellbeder matter? Academy on Cherry lane in White Settlement has them by the way.
