Has anyone on here ever used one of these?

Pretty innovative idea, especially for anyone that fishes from the bank:

Humminbird Smartcast

Just wondered if it really works or falls into the "not quite ready for primetime" category.

the guys in the UK have modified them to work out to about 65 yards ...I would love to have one if it worked more then about 30' off the bank.

So they're getting an additional 15 yards out of it. As it comes from Humminbird, it is supposed to have a range of 150' or 50 yards. Heck at 50 yards away, I doubt you could even see that transducer on the water!

They do have some competition now. Seeing a number of units from Hong Kong and also Australia on ebay. Don't know what sort of quality, but one of them has a range of 160'.

But still, these are running about $20 less than the Humminbird model that mounts directly on the pole.

I have one, its the older one that doesn't show temp.
It work fine, just make sure you adjust the sensitivity on it.
That way you won't be seeing 500 fish when there is only 3.
Sports Authority has them cheap, like $30 something, probably cause no one really shops there for fishing stuff.

Actually, that is just for the replacement transducer. The price for the entire unit at SA is $90 for the wrist version and $80 or the pole mount version. I've seen both $20 less if you shop around online.

They have a decent looking hand held portable fish finder with a 35 ft cable at Walmart, for 47 bucks, I want to try one but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

No I paid like $38 for the whole thing, Plano Sports Authority 75 & ND Tollway.
This was 3yrs ago and it still works.

Wow, no kidding. That's a fantastic price. Price I was quoting was based on the current price in their online store. Just goes to show you - if you catch stuff on sale/clearance, you can get some great deals.

Thanks
