Is anyone on here familar with the Cannon Mag10s electric downrigger. Some of the reviews I read say that the motors are erratic and not smooth. Also want to know if the Mag10s is able to mount a dual rod holder on the rear. Would like to be able to troll with 4 rods vs 2. Emailed cannon but would like to here from the true experts on here.

Not sure if Jim (Redfin) knows the in's and out's of the Mag 10's but he is your downrigger guy. I suggest sending him a PM.

Brandon

I have had the Mag 10 in the past, and they worked very well for many years with no complaints at all. you can mount the dual rod holder on them in either a front or rear configuration.

The motor was very smooth and did not have any issues with them at all, I ran a set of 4 for over 10 years with out any issues.

which version of the mag 10 are you looking at/for?

The new ones have short stop on them ( the weight will stop when it reaches the surface) and positive ion control and a few more features..

They dont have all of the features that the digi-troll units have but they work just as well
Go to the Cannon web site for all of the details.

If they are used make sure you see them run before you buy, or know the guy your buying from, or be able to return them if there is a problem.

Also i have had decent luck finding good ones on E Bay. ( some like it some dont)

Good Luck

Brandon, got your pm. Good talking with you. It helps to have someone with you when DR'ing 4 rods. If you're able to get 4 rods set and working, then the fish bite is slow. Normally, when the fish are biting good, I'm lucky to get two rods set before one goes off. I've even had them pull the line out of my hand as I'm getting it set in the release on the first rod....gotta love days like that.

I've used the Cannon Mag 10 electric downriggers for more than 20 years and haven't had any problems with them. In addition, my motors have a lifetime warranty. Check to see if Cannon still offers the warranty.
