Part time work for extra cash after you retire ?
Many factors involved I would think. How much is needed for extra income, is the income mandatory for meeting your living expences or just a supplement to your retirement ?
If the part time employment was for just extra cash, for me personally , I would definitely do something I enjoyed.
Part time fishing guide would be a consideration. Not a bass, catfish, crappie or striper guide, but mayby something less stressful like a sandbass guide when they are schooling in the summer and fall. Try to learn a lake as good as you can, and stay on top of the fish patterns as much as possible. Then just offer a guided trip at a much lower fee than the full time guides indicating to your customers something like..
Get off the bank and come fishing with me. No frills, no guarantee catch, just a fisherman that loves to fish with a back seat open for a reasonable fee. Targeting sandbass is what we will do, and I will do my best to see you get on some fish, but again, no garantees of catching them, just a garantee I will try my best to see that you do.
One problem with that, not sure how that would play with the full time guides that make their living fishing by getting customers at a reduced fee, but I would think the fisherman you would get would not pay premium prices they get to target a certain species like bass. Should be enough fisherman for all to get a piece of the pie. I always felt their are many fisherman that would pay a reasonable price to fish on the lake once in awhile.
Many not for profit orginizations hire part time employees to be able to operate. Salvation Army or local shelters often have part time positions to meet a need in a community.
Their was a job listing in the Star Telegram paper awhile back that was interesting, a large ministry was seeking payed part time prayer partners to man their 24/7 phone lines. The hourly wage was decent, something like 9 or 10 dollars an hour, and I would think that would be a very rewarding way to add some income to your bank account. Might look in to something like that in your area.
If your about to retire, congrats and enjoy. Good luck on whatever you choose to do.

What were you doing before you retired? I would try to take the skills I have learned at my job before I retired and see if I could put them into use for myself. For instance, if you were involved in computers, try to suppliment your retirement income by fixing computers. Just a thought...

Work on boats, thats what I did. Working sence 1998. Just keep it to what you can do yourself. Can be done almost anywhere. Know boat mechanics that make more $ on the side than at their regular job. Need to start up a couple of years before retiring to get established. Have freind that has done same thing working on guns and another that sells and installs security systems and another that sells wireless internet systems, on and on possibilities are endless.

i like basschasser's suggestion to be a consultant. the only hitch is that a consultant works his/her tail off until the project is complete. maybe you would be more interested in temporary work? the pay can be good (depending on the type of work being performed), but you have the opportunity to pick and choose projects, duration, etc. it would certainly provide some cash flow while allowing you to maintain an 'outdoors lifestyle.' here is another thought: what about working at bass pro, academy, etc.? you could share your knowledge, spend the day talking to folks who share your love of hunting/fishing, and get the juicy employee discounts, too! ummm...well, maybe that could be a bad thing. you might just spend your paycheck there (at least i would...like a kid in a candy store)

Man you have all kinds of outdoor oppurtunities at your fingertips. Everytime I go up there (about 20 times a year) I almost cry from having to drive back home.

Woodwork. Build small to medium items. Put them in independent craft and hobby stores to sell on consignment. Would not put myself in a situation were I would be rushed to get something finished. If they request something it would be with the understanding that they get when I finish it. If that means I don’t work on it for a week or two at time because of fishing or hunting, so be it. After all I would be retired not mass producing.
