It used to be a small power plant lake in Coppell, just east of Belt Line and north of 635. I used to catch some pretty decent bass there back in the early 90's, but now it seems to be closed. They're even grazing cattle where the old park entrance used to be. I'd really like to get out there and see what's biting now, if possible.

there's about 300 old posts devoted to this off-limits lake if you
do a "search".

I searched both North Lake and Lake North before I posted and none of the topics had anything to do with the subject.

Tough crowd.

Maybe I'm just a dope and can't work the search function properly, but I still can't find a single post about this lake. Can you at least link one for me?

I can't find squat about it either, it was an awesome lake back in the day. I've caught lots of fish there until my best friend drowned there in 1976. They closed it down to swimming shortly after that, and reopened it to boaters, then closed it down again. I bet it would be a smoking hot lake if reopened!

(Re: North Lake in Irving/Coppell -OLD thread)

It is closed -OFF LIMITS. NO- Trespassing.
They are currently in the process of draining the lake to build more patio homes around it.
As of February 2010
Town Hall Meeting Set for Tues., Mar. 2 at 7 p.m., CHS Lecture Hall

Over the past several months, the City of Coppell, CISD, and Billingsley Company completed the purchase of the entire North Lake property. These entities continue to work together as agreed to in the settlements of the various lawsuits. The City does not have an obligation to provide police and fire service to the area, nor has it agreed to the provision of these services.

This cooperative effort has provided definition regarding the overall density and development for the entire 1700-acre tract rather than simply dealing with the initial issues associated with the original proposed development that only included approximately 350 acres. Billingsley Development Corporation has a zoning case filed with the City of Dallas for their portion of the property (a.k.a. Cypress Waters) to begin their development phase. This zoning case is scheduled to be reviewed by the City of Dallas sometime in the spring of 2010.

A Town Hall Meeting will take place on Tues., Mar. 2, at 7 p.m., in the Lecture Hall at Coppell High School. This meeting will provide information about the history of the property and the proposed development. Included in the discussion is the topic of how the Cotton Belt Rail/DART line could be incorporated within the development.

Sorry, Alan. North Lake has been discussed quite a bit over the years, you're right, search shows none.

I appreciate the replies Gents and n/p Black Sun, I know how irritating noobs can be when they ask questions that have already been beat to death.

Too bad about the lake though. It was a good'n in it's day. It's a shame TXU abandoned it and the developers moved in.

Oh well. I guess that's the price of "progress".

Yeah, it's a tough deal. I've wanted to fish the lake for some 10 years and have half heartedly asked about it. Heres the story as I understand it. Supposedly the two towns around the lake wanted to deny ownership of it as neither wanted to pay for the upkeep on the park. So TXU closed it to the public. As soon as developers wanted to buy the land around it and build on it, sure enough both towns now wanted to claim ownership and reep the profits. It's been a legal mess for some time now and the public has been shut off from the lake the entire time.

I wish TXU had just kept the power plant open. But I could wish in one hand and...anyway.
Thanks for telling me the who's and why's of it.

I wonder if we could find the developer and talk them into letting us fish it, while they hash it all out?

I can't get a real good look at it from Beltline, but I don't doubt it. Since the power plant doesn't run and they have cattle grazing around it now, it could be pretty nasty. There was some deeper water at the east end though. It might look a little better than the shallow water you can see from the west end. I'd like to take a closer look, but it looks like I'd need a parachute to get in there now.
