I need some help all and this is the best place I can figure to get it. My family is going to O.H. Ivie Lake this Saturday for a family reunion and spending a couple of days there. My Dad has a house there that he can’t sell and it makes a good getaway. Seeing that there will be limited entertainment for us I was hoping to get some clues on where to go to catch some fish

Call Mr Whiskers & set up a night trip. See my post "Fishing with Mr Whiskers". He will put you on some good fishing. I have his number some where...

Don't waste your money on a guide. To keep the kids entertained troll crankbaits along the wind blown banks during early morning and late evening for white bass. During the day fish worms deep next to the river channels and humps for black bass. Keep your eyes open for surfacing white all along the main lake during the day. Once the sun goes down, anchor near a river channel or flat in 25-40 feet of water and put out a green light and fish for crappie and whites with minnows. You can easily do this yourself. No need to waste your money on a guide.

Exactly what jthomas said.... especially on the night fishing. Set up almost anywhere 25-40’ deep just of the river channel near the dam. About an hour after dark you will only be able to keep up with one pole. Use the Elm Creek/ Kennedy Park ramp.
JT- I *think* I remember you positing about Medina last year...I’ll be there 7/20-23. After that maybe I’ll see you back at Ivie.

sb,
I was wondering when you guys were going to make it back up here. Let me know how you do at Medina. That is a beautiful lake. Clear and deep.
Keep in touch.

This is almost to easy but launch at Kennedy and go straight out from the ramp about 200 yds. Stop anchor out and put your lights in the water wait for the shad and the whites will follow. Sb had it right, between 30 and forty feet seems to be the magic depth. The other night the whites were between 32 and 36. Twice in the last month I've seen a boat limit caught from the spot I mentioned. One of them was a guy I knew and 3 of them limited out in about 2 hours. I havent had much luck this year on catfish on Ivie. If you want to get ahold of Mike Stuard aka Mr Whiskers is number is cell 325-636-3275 or home 325-636-4502. He's a great guide and he grew up on the Concho and Colorado Rivers before they built Ivie. I used to be Mikes deckhand years ago and still go fishing with him about once a year, when I have a big group wanting to fish or can't figure out what there doing.

Yep, Mike is hoot to fish with. The redneck ark is something else to fish off of too!

Guys thanks for all the info on the lake. The Boys and I are heading out tomorrow at noon. If the Fed-Ex man gets here earler (he is bringing me my fish finder/GPS from lowarance) then we will head out then. I have printed out all the posts on a cheet sheet and will discuss them with my Dad. This is a great forum Thanks again. Dan...AKA Fishing With Kids If any one is out there I am in a Blue "Spirit" Bass boat with a grey Yamaha 150 pro V stop and say HI.

Its just really almost to easy but its a good spot. Whiskers told me earlier this year that he has caught over 600,000 fish out of Ivie since its opened. We hammer it every year and from one year to the next theres never any dropoff. I think its because of the tremendous shad population though.
