Hey guys I'm looking for a decent spinning combo (or just a reel)that I can use to fish rough water. Something I can put 25-30lb braid on. Any cheap suggestions? Thanks.
I don't know much about spinning setups.. All of my reels are baitcasters. I know spinnign reels go by sizes, like 35, 40, etc...What is the ratio of line to reel?
I've heard 8lb mono is the same diameter as a 40lb braid.. Is this true?

Shimano Sahara, around $80. The 2500 is a pretty good all around model for that reel.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

I like the Off Shore Angler Inshore Extreme reel. I think I paid about $50 for it and it has the newer short fat spools, sealed bearings an all. If there is no chance of getting it wet, anything with plenty of bearings is fine.

Went to BP today and check out a few. I liked the extremes. New model does have the short fat spool but felt good.Would you go with the extreme over the pflueger trion? I've heard these trions will last for years...They are both on sale right now for $40

I really have never thrown a Trion to give you an honest comparison but I know I would buy another Inshore Extreme for $40 for sure. I wade fish with mine so the sealed bearings were a must for me but I see no wear in my reel yet and I like to open mine up just to look inside sometimes. Will it last for years??? Couldn't tell you, haven't had it that long. Do I care if it last for years at $40, not really. Oh and about the other post above, I use 50lb braid on all my saltwater stuff and 30lb braid with a flouro leader on all my fresh water stuff except light tackle. I'll use the regular BPS 10-14lb mono or the 4lb mono on my ultralight tackle. ALso yes, my 30 lb braid is 6lb mono thickness and my 50lb is 12lb mono thickness I believe.

If you want it to last get a penn or shimano. Penn ssg series 440 or shimano symetre, sahara, stradic ( whatever your budget allows)

Okuma Excelor 30 or 40 series. Great all around reel for the salt and for the money. A little over $50 bucks. Surf fish w/ my 30 series for over 3 years and still is in great shape. It's been submerged several times. A little rinse w/ fresh water and a little spray lube and it's ready for another trip. I fish it w/ 12 lb mono and use fluoro leaders.

I have a couple of older Shimano Saharas that have withstood a lot of saltwater punishment and they are still kickin, too.

Can't go wrong w/ either.

The Trion is a very nice real for the money. I've got a couple that I use when striper fishing and they have taken a serious beating and hold up great.

Shimano Spirex front drag. Has a 2 grip handle like a bait caster. $60.

I would go with the okuma trio at around $70 light and it has a stronger gear
