I've never even thought about the midnight thing. LOL You have to catch a ton of fish for that event apply and believe me it would be a very rare occasion where it would ever apply to any of my trips, lol. Ha!! LOL No kidding!
"once they've caught and boated their limit, they're done fishing."
No they keep fishing and culling until time for weigh in. You just can't put a fish in your livewell that would put you over the limit before you cull one. If you do you have to release the last fish caught and usually your biggest fish if I'm not mistaken. I've seen it happen before and cost some pros some big bucks because of it.
Ahh, interesting, thanks for educating me. So, I would assume that you could catch and release all day long without regard to the limit, but it would appear that once you have a daily limit of fish in your possession that you can't continue to catch period - at least that's what I think it's saying.

So what is the "official" interpretation of the law? I've never heard about the stop fishing thing, but I could see why a guide would say that. You always hear stories of guided trips limiting out fast and heading in by 9-10 am. I always wondered why they head in if they payed for 6-8 hours.

I think its more of a guide thing I am fishing BassMasters this year and its ok to fish past your 5 fish bag limit you just have to cull. I assure you if the GW had a issue the tournament rules would be different. We culled all day on Amistad after we hit our limit start culling.
