Got out for about 3 hours yesterday. On the water about 2:45. Found lots of fish, but the bite was pretty slow. Lots of bird action after 4:30 from the west end of the dam to twin trees, but the bite was still slow. Ended up with about 12 whites (no hybrids), mostly pretty large fish. All but one fish were caught on slabs.

It was a beautiful afternoon and the weather must have enticed a lot of folks 'cause there were 12-15 other boats out. Had Don the Angler with me, so the company was good also.

Were you slabbin' or dead sticking the bait? It's been hear and there fishing on LL based on my experience & conversations with others.

Launched at Lewisville Lake Park. Slab worked REALLY slow, dead stick at times. Fish caught anywhere from 25' down to the bottom in 30 to 40' of water.

Dead Stickin slabs seemed to work the best last weekend for me. That and smaller live shad. Just put my pole in the pole holder and watched. Its hard not to jig a slab but seemed to work. Also try using a 1/8 ounce crappie jig above the slab a very good tip from papa peck. thanks again papa peck. I dont like using live bait as well as artificials but the smaller shad seemed to outfish the artificals about 2 to 1.

Sorry about the email problem. I recently changed services and had forgotten to change the address on this forum. It should be correct now.

"Slabbin'" would normally be a vertical jigging motion. Move the slab up 2-4 feet and then drop back to bottom, but keep contact with the lure as it is falling so you can feel the bite. "Dead stick" is exactly that--no movement of the rod at all except what the boat causes. As hvtexskeeter just said, you can simply put the rod ina holder and watch it. However, I prefer to hold it so I can feel the bite. This time of year the bite is often very light.

Forgot to mention that Don did have a jig above his slab. Not one fish caught on the jig. Maybe it was because we didn't get into any hybrids, but the whites we were catching weren't interested.

If you know there are fish under you, but you aren't getting bit with the normal slab technique, then the dead stick method is one of the things I try. Especially during the winter when the fish normally are not real aggressive. I will also switch lures trying to find something they want, but only rarely will I find something that will interest them if they won't take a slab. That said, there was one day last fall out by the white house that they wouldn't take a slab, jig, sassy shad, Kastmaster, or anything else I tried until I got to a chartreuse Humdinger. Jigged like you normally would a slab, they jumped all over it, but wouldn't touch it if cast and cranked or cast and jumped off the bottom. So...sometimes they're finicky and it really does take the right combination of bait and presentation.
