Yesterday the alarm went off and was a steady sound instead of the intermintent beep. I had been running for a couple of minutes. I stopped and and check the oil next to the engine which was fine. Started back to ramp and after about 30 seconds the alarm went off. I want ahead a fished, and it never went off again, even though I ran it several times.

What does that alarm mean, and is it something I need to go have checked.

What boat/motor?

Just cause there is oil in the oil reservoir doesn't mean it's getting to the engine...

I had a steady alarm go off on my boat yesterday too. I have disconnected the oil injector and pre-mix my oil so i know it was not the oil alarm. Motor was not hot and water was peeing out of the motor strong. I turned my motor off and re-started it and had no further problems. I have a 1996 Yamaha 115.

Its a merc 150 - 1996. I had the oil alarm go off last week, which is why I checked the oil reservoir. it was low then and when I filled out the beeping alarm stopped.

A steady alarm is overheat. It could be the sender or you could have actually overheated. If you do not have a PSI gauge you should get one. The most common reason for mine to act up is the sender on the oil tank but that is an intermittent signal. You might have just had a temporary overheat condition. I would check the cooling components like jimmy said.
