Anyone have some good recipes for sponge baits? Could you just use anything that stinks like cheese, livers and such and puree it to a consistency that will stay on the sponge? Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hey Cobos, you can make many kinds of dip and punch baits that work using ingredients found in kitchens and grocery stores.

It's a fun thing to concoct your own baits and I have done it many times with success. One of the best that I make is ground bream with various additives like: chicken livers, cheese, parmesan cheese, shrimp, beef blood, etc.

I also get a kick out of whittling a lure from a piece of cedar wood and catching fish on it.

My Grandson and I are tying jigs right now and it is a thrill to catch sandies, bass, stripers, etc. with your own homemade jigs.

Hey Cobos...no pics of the cedar lures....most I gave away...but I think my Grandson has a couple left. I will get him to send me a pic when he gets back from his National Guard maneuvers.

Hey Chuckwagon, your post got me thinking maybe I should try whittling a lure out of wood and this is what I came up with. I carved and sanded them by hand, then used some old acrylic paints i had laying around. It was fun trying and I think I found a new hobby. The first one has great presentation in the water and the second I haven't tried just yet. These are just for starters and I hope to get better in time.
