Just wondering if anyone has fished the surf in the past few days anywhere from Bob Hall Pier on south, have heard the seaweed is getting pretty thick, wondering if it has made it up on the beach yet. Worried about driving conditions this coming weekend. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Talked to a buddy today that lives in Port A. He reports that seaweed is nearly a foot deep on the beach. Winds are high and seas rough. Rain is expected over the next 4-5 days. Typical spring.

Do you know if Nick has made it down to PINS lately, I hear the further south the thinner it is, which doesn't make much sense seeing as usually the warmer temps bring the weed, and you would think the further south the warmer the water, not sure, just really trying to find out before possibly making a big mistake, not worried about the rain, always do well in he rain, especially when its on and off.

So I stand by my previous report.

Mike,
I won't get in a contest about weed. Lets just say there is plenty of weed down there and the amounts vary depending on location.
Other than being a pain in the rear fishing, how much trouble does the weed cause driving?? I have never driven on weed, but do have a 4WD now, so I might soon.
Is it legal to collect weed to put in my garden (after its rinsed)??? Seaweed is rich in micro-nutrients and great for the tomatoes.

On todays beach forecast on breakaway.com Nick indicates the weed at the tide line North of Packery was 2 feet deep. I won't argue.. Good to know.

I typically spend a lot of time in Port A from May to Oct. I used to spend a lot of that time traveling down PINS (pre-boat days) and have driven on the seaweed often.
You have to watch out once it begins decaying and gets covered with a thin layer of sand. The decaying seaweed mixed with sand can cause pockets of quick sand that will bury you quick. Even in a 4x4. I've stuck my 4x4 on PINS several times and seen plenty of 'em stuck. My only advise is prepared for anything and be self reliant. If you get stuck then you should be equipped and prepared to un-stick yourself.
Carry shovels, boards, jacks, a 12v air compressor so you can air your tires back up before leaving the beach. Take a tow strap (a long one) and a long chain in case a good Samaritan takes pity on you and gives you a tug. If you have a winch then take a boat anchor to bury in the sand and use to winch yourself out. I like to air my tires down to 15-20 psi if it's real sticky down there.

another bad thing about the weed is it hides all the debris on the beach, I had a bad experience with driving in it causing puntures in the tires, not from the weed but from the garbage underneath.

Never thought of burying a boat anchor. I assume an anchor like a danforth would do.

Hey Buddha was that pic of the F150 from like a year or two ago, if so I saw the same truck, and have some printed pics of the truck prob. a few days after that caused it seemed much further out, and was trashed, and full of weeds. Not the friendly reminder i was looking for before heading down there fri. Just Joking, prob. not going down too far.
