I'm taking a friend to Conroe. He is still a beginner at bass fishing and loves it, so I'm trying to keep that spark. I have not fished the lake before either. What is the best way to catch some fish on Conroe right now. Any tips will be appreciated.

Conroe is tough... One day you get on them, the next not even a bite. Check the water temp, but most people have the best luck north of the 1097 bridge or in the flats just north of Walden. They can be pulled off docks etc but it depends on the day.

Good luck man.... I fish Conroe 2-3 times a week, and it's just like TJ said, it's on-again, off-again...
Hit the docks....

The friggin wind and boat wakes were terrible on Saturday. We were fishing a tournament and had 1 dink at noon. Put the Boat on the trailer and went home. I got up Sunday and could hardly walk from being beat so much by the wakes and waves.

Went last friday and it was beautiful weather in the morning but got a little windy later on. I ended up catching a drum and a gar so I went to Raven. Had a lot more luck there.

Went yesterday. Had about 6 bites until I quit at 3. Boated one. I have trouble with that lake. Shoreline cover is pretty sparse compared to most lakes I like to fish (I could go into the grass carp thing, but won't). Normally I like fishing structure, but really wanted to get into the shallow fish yesterday. Didn't happen. It was quite the downer.

If you go south of the 1097 bridge, be ready for a boat ride. With this recent string of nice weather, the recreational crowd has been out in full force, and even on a calm, nearly windless day, that lake can beat you to death. It is like being in a giant bath tub.

Yeah, that ride from the 1097 down to the south end can be brutal, even in my Ranger which sits quite a bit deeper than my old boat.

I've been on Conroe the last two Saturday Mornings. Easter weekend I saw more idots than ever in my life. I missed guessed, told the better half water temp was to cold for wakeboarders...........I was wrong. It was a washing machine with all the people out. Spum a prop hub, it sucked. Watched a guy pull his boat out of the water and drive acoross the parking lot with the motor running, in gear
I boated one fish last Sat morning, missed a couple of big girls right at the boat. The lake has little cover and it's hard to get away from the recreational boaters, but has some big fish. Had a lot of bassboats beating the bank lately.
Thanks, Billy

Conroe is a great lake and is definitely producing right now. If you're looking for a big sow then go south and go to the back of creeks and look for one. If you're looking for numbers and a chance for quality, go north and start flipping a 1/8-1/4 ounce (depending on the wind) Texas rigged finesse worm. Robo-worm, trick worm, finesse... etc. If you're up north throw black/blue and if you are down south throw watermelon or green pumpkin. If you strictly want big fish, lay down the trick worm and pick up a jig or lizard. Start in the backs of creeks and work your way out. You'll catch fish.

Conroe is probably a better lake than I give it credit for. I've never figured it out, but plan to fish it during the week some this year when I can get off.
Thanks, Billy

Most bass have spawned but you can still catch some on beds. Fish around spawn areas with flukes and senkos, that will catch the better ones that other guys are not seeing.

I was out with Kajunman on Saturday, from about 10:30 on the idiot crowd took over making laps back and forth.
Went back up Sunday and made an open water run across the damn, was not too bad going over, coming back there was no way at all to find a place to run, I finally backed off and took my beating like a man. I too hurt the next day.
After the next couple of weeks I will be done on Conroe until after Labor Day unless I go during the week or late in the afternoon on weekends. I cannot compete with 40 footers who like to plow around. I really think a lot of those guys are compensating for something in their lives, funny thing is most of them are with a bunch of guys!!
