Hey W/W they call them ground clamps at Home Depot, I think they are about $2.00 each, depending what you are mounting them to, you may need a longer bolt to mount the rod holder to it, if you need a pic let me know and I will take one tomorrow and post it!!!

It just looks like he drilled straight through the rail... which may be a little tougher to do on a 1" round rail... plus I want to take advantage of having a round rail and being able to adjust mine up and down... so I want to stay away from that if possible...

Larry yes please take pics and pm them to me or post them...thanks.

WW, I used some 7/8" split collars and grounded a small flat spot to the top, drilled and tapped a 3/8x16 hole for my driftmaster type holders. They work fine and I'm able to adjust the angle. It helps having the things at work to do it with. blush

If you're going to be "power trolling" (big motor at 3+ mph) for stripers/hybrids/redfish the Beeready's will not stand up to the strike you're going to get.

Downeast rail mounts are the only way to go. Easy to use and adjustable on several angles. Just lift the rod straight up when a fish is on.

If you have access to antenna mounts like a trucker might use to mount an antenna to a his outside mirror, that would work. If you have to buy the mount, you may spend as much as you would with the name brand rod holders. Maybe big hose clamps will help mount a piece of tubular to the round rod????????

I have been looking all over for that, the only thing is by the time you buy that and the spring clips and hardware you can buy Beereadys or driftmasters. still not sure how I'm going to go.

Well... if I get a type of ground clamp or conduit clamp or something I figure it will be no more than $5 / clamp... and then the clip think is no more than $5 I wouldnt think... that is $10 / holder... driftmasters are much more than that, and so are the new style Beereadys.. Now you used to be able to get the old style beereadys for $11 but I guess he doesnt have anymore..

The spring clips are about $2.50 at Walmart. With nut, bolt, washer and tax you will have about $3.00 in it. If you can't come up with a plan to mount them you may be better off with the Bee Ready.

Zip tie is Optional, not necessary. I only used it on a few of them.

Hey Capt. I went to Wal Mart today to pick up a Spring Clip (carabiner) but the biggest they had was 3/8" and I figured that wasnt wide enough to fit my fat rods... but now I see that is what you use... do all of your rods fit through that??

I have cut the nub off of my rods to make it easier to get the rod out of the clip. I have been told that they make a larger spring clip but I have not run across them yet.

Home Depot has a 7/16" clip...and is much wider than the 3/8"...gap may too wide to securely hold the rod though. I tried Wal-Mart first, and the only ones they had were 5/16". Took one over to the rods they had in the store, and they were too small for a rod to go through. The 3/8" seems to be the best fit...
