So i'm an avid saltwater fisherman, but i get the urge to get a line wet whenever i'm not working or busy with my other hobbies. Lake Dunlap and Mcqueeney are pretty close to where i live (only about 20min) and i was wondering where are some entrances to the lake? I have no boat so i'm doing off the shore fishing...mainly bass species, and maybe some fish i can take home to the frier. But any help will be much appreciated.

I also have heard this place has some good carp fishing so i will be popping my carp cherry when i get chance to go.

The ramp for Dunlap is right under I-35. I see people fishing from the bank in that area all of the time.

As far as i know thats the only public access, to lake dunlap. Unless you know someone with a private launch. As for Mcqueeny, there is no pubic access to that lake, which we use to fish all the time, Until they sold McQueeny Marina, which is by the way a awsome lake to catch bass. People talk about a lauch to McQueeny off of 78, that calls for a 4X4, but have not been able to find it. If you find access to Mcqueeny, please share!!

i wish i had a 4x4 to go looking, but i drive a camaro =[

hopefully i'll be able to get to both the lakes this week and share some spots that i'm able to find. I guess i'll be asking the locals that i see around.

to access mcqueeney do i have to have some sort of pass? or somehow manage to sneak on?

go to the freshwater reports and look for the post "mcqueeney is on fire." it's on it's 3rd page of discussion now...mostly about the ramp and access issues.

the launch under 35 is the only public access but have seen people catching cats there... i know ive seen bass along the bank when loading/unloading there. personally i would probably go to canyon. been a few years but more free places to access. i dont know the names of the coves/parks there but look on tpwd.com for access points. spent many afternoons up there when i was younger driving around fishing at different ramps
