Hey all
I was looking for some spots to catch shad on Lake Lewisville. I was out with my buddy (Guess what age) Friday and Saturday and we marked a lot of fish and could never hook up with any. I had my net but never saw any thing that looked good for bait on the sonar. Any advice would be welcome.

To the top...

I'm interested in this question as well. Anybody have a sweet spot right now for catching shad?

I always have decent luck in hidden cove... The far North east cove usually is stacked with good looking gizzard shad in 12-20 ft of water. Hope this helps

Fishing with Kids,

Forget the graph when catching bait. Drive into the backs of the coves (way back) and look for shad 'popping' on the surface. Watch behind the boat as well as sometimes you will see them pop in the prop wash. Once you've found them they should be easy to catch, at least in a week or two after the water warms up some more. Also, try around the marinas at night under the lights.

Michael Stewart (Baitmaster on the SOG site) may be willing to share some specific spots on LL that could help you out. He is a pro at catching shad.

Also, we usually post information on TSA meetings and tournaments here. Stop by at a meeting or weigh in and one of us will be glad to talk to you about catching bait.

Shad are doing their spring spawn run now guys. With the lake being low you need to hit the windy points on the main lake at day break and you can catch all the shad you need in one cast.

It frequently has to do with the time of day, and I haven't been out there lately, but I normally catch them around the Main (North) Dam Cut. Lots of them on either side, and pretty close to the bouy. These can be seen on the Fish Finder. One day they will be on the East side, and the next they will be the west side of the cut (but not actually in the cut).
There is also a Hole, on the West side of the dam near this cut, that will hold lots of bait.

I prefer to catch them from the bank unless I am fishing on the lake. From the bank, I go near the Boat launch by the 121 marina. Then there is the is the far east side of the parking lot near the resteraunt, under the lights at night. Lots of Bluegills, shad, and even a couple of Black Bass...be nice to the geese and ducks (they might be the reason why the bait fish are in the area).

Most times you will not be able to spot them on the fish-finder, because they are too shallow.
There is the grass bank near the Boat launch (on the other side of the floating dock) and at Stewart Park. Pretty close to the shore...again they may be there one day and not the next.
