Went to Mustang Park this a.m. with 11yo son and decided to fish for cats since it was so hot.Threw cast net and drug up a whole mess of 3-4" lmb's...i thought hmm..kinda strange....so i threw again in a different spot and had twice as many !!!!!!!Let 'em all go...then finally caught a bunch of 2-3" perch...tiny ones.We put some lines out and my son wanted to fish with worms so he put one on bottom,and bam...i figured it was a dink cat or a drum but it was a dink sandy!!!Well no real surprise, then he caught another and another,all about 6-8 in. long! Well i tried throwing slabs ,kastmasters, rat-l-traps....nothing,nada!!!!Went back to the nightcawlers and bam....ended up withabout 35....all 6-8 in long......it was fun though.Fished from about 9:30 til 2 and never once caught a cat.....maybe i'll stop and get me some more nightcrawlers next time i wanna fish for sandies

Well...You win...I never would have thought of that for catching sand bass. Kid do not care how big the fish are, they just want some action...you did good.

my son and i also went that day but we stayed near the dam. we saw little surface action about noon and nothing else.we left at about 4 and the marina was full of boats launching. next time we will try evening fishing.we did see many snakes in the cove at the marina that was exciting for my son but i almost sh-- my pants!

I did not see where you guys had tried trolling the hellpet at the normal places to see if you could catch them.

I saw where Steve Bradbury had posted that you will catch more trolling than sitting still = the fish seem to want the bait moving horizontal rather than vertical...and that has been my most recent experience on Benbrook also.

I hate snakes...

Anyone headed out there this week?? If I can get ahead on my flooring project at the house, I'll be heading out for some evening hellpet acton. Might even throw the downriggers on for grins.
