Had a great trip out on Rayburn today. Caught 15-20 good solid bass in the 2 to 7 pound range, anywhere from 2 to 12ft of water. Only downside to todays trip was the rude and crude bunch showed up today in full force..... madI normally don't say anything about it, but today it was the worst that I've ever seen. You know who you are.....give us some space and quit cutting people off!!!! Just because we are catching fish and you aren't doesn't mean you can get on top of us....

Oh....the bait of choice today was the wat/red senko/brush hog dipped and tail nailed.

I have to admit, I accidently cut someone off today. I was wrong and felt horrible about it. I was going in towards a bank and saw someone start turning around to cut up the bank I was heading towards. I should have waited to see exactly where he was going, but I just cut in. I was wrong!!!!!

I was sitting on a good spot about midnight last night and these people in a wake boat come idling between me and the bank, some 15 yards away. As they passed the driver said "sorry if you are fishing".

People don't avoid crossing the line, they just have a disclaimer ready. Imagine I hit his boat with a 2 ounce egg sinker... "sorry if your boat has a hole in it". I wouldn't, but they saw me several yards out since I have plenty of lights on my boat, but they circled and came around to see what I was doing.

The simple answer is that most people are ignorant of fishing etiquette. Other fishermen usually just go on by, and if they want to speak with you, they will stop way out and yell before approaching. Some people who were never taken fishing or hunting by their dad, who were never told "don't do that" by their dad while out fishing or hunting, these people often have no idea that it's bad form to disrupt a fisherman who's anchored, to drive though his fishing area. However, I cannot put these people into that group, since it's obvious that these people knew it was wrong, thus the apology, but the driver did it anyhow. That's not ignorance, it's just inconsideration of other people. I believe most on this forum would feel bad about inadvertently imposing on another fisherman, especially if we believe we disturbed the fishing for that person. We wouldn't just pretend we were sorry for the sake of forgiveness of that person, or for the viewing pleasure of our guests. Therein lies the difference between a-holes and the rest of us.

I told the guy it's no biggie, that he's not the first a-hole and won't be the last. Then he says he didn't see my boat. I told his passengers that they should be alarmed that their driver didn't see a boat with nav lights on, with several lights inside the boat, in the middle of the night on an otherwise empty lake. Then I just turned my back and fished in the other direction.

Next week will be the worst week all year when it comes to etiquette on the water. I wrote an article in this months lake caster abourt boat ramp etiquette and I wish it was required reading for all who enter the Big Bass Splash tournament this week.

Eric, quit cutting off everyone on the lake....I hear rumors of the big blue hole theif from all around the lake. smile

I think he means they drive a small nail into the tail to give it different action.

That is correct, stick a nail in the tail of the senko for weight

Today was a another great day, same technique applied today along with a little bit of top water action early. The lake was less populated today and everybody minded their manors today...at least where I was.

You wouldn't catch me on the lake this next weekend if life depended on it. I will make a prediction though....In my opinion, there are quite a few fish still carrying eggs, this big bass splash will be interesting to watch, there will be some big fish brought to the scales.....please take care of those fish......good luck!!
