I am heading for Sandlin on Thursday for a week of camping and fishing. I have never been there and would like to get into the sandies if possible. I know it is mainly a bass lake but any tips on where to fish and techniques will be greatly appreciated. I got three kids on spring break who would love to catch a mess of em.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I know there are sand bass in the lake, but I have never fished for them there. Ask the locals when you get there, maybe they can help point you to some good areas.

Buy the dam near the right side of the power gen station there are some bubbles coming up from the bottom. If you can find this you can find some sandies and crappie. Also near the bridge by the state park. I am no expert but this is what I as told and seemed to be good info.
Good luck

I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

Sandlin has plenty of whites. Locate the old road bed next to the bridge. There are usually some schools somewhere on that. Put a chrome or chartreuese slab on 'em. That'll work.......

And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

Mr. G, yes. Sandies are in Sandlin.

Like others have posted, I have caught many in the area on the campground side of the bridge.

I've also caught a good many under the bridge on small, single treble, chrome and blue rattle traps.

Good luck.

At sunset, get up in the fallen logs and tree stumps along the shore of the campground. Throw a yellow or chartreuse skirted spinner bait. You should do well. smile

Ive caught about 500 whites there in the last 3 weeks. Yes its full of them and they seem to be on the average much bigger than last year. Been catching easy limits of 14-15 inch fish. Lately have caught most of mine arount 21 bridge. Troll something shad colored that runs about 10-14 ft. When you find them, if its not too windy, drift and slab or throw humdingers/tailhummers, let settle on bottom, then rip and bounce em back. Last year this time of year, caught thousands by "blow-hole" up against the cypress springs dam, but havent tried to get there this year yet due to water levels and ease of finding them around the bridge.

Thanks for the post thebear. It sounds like the sandies will be fun. We will be staying at the state park which is near the 21 bridge I think. How is the Bass fishing and the water level on the lake since the rain last week?
