I have a Uniden that is permanently mounted.
It is weathered and the mic button is worn off.

Mount it where it is easy to remove and take inside for storage.

I have to buy a new one soon.
This is how it was rigged when new.
Thanks - Travis boats. realmad

OK, Now the $0.25 for me: What are/is the most common channel to stay on for traffic? Does that change w/ each lake, or is there a more or less "common" channel? (i.e.: Ch 19 on a CB radio is the most popular)

Thanx for the help!

If you have a Marine VHF radio you are REQUIRED by law to monitor channel 16 when you are underway. Underway is defined as not anchored, not aground or not made fast to the shore.. so drifting with the motor off is actually underway.

That sounds like a pain but it is really easy. Almost all new VHF radios come with a "dual" or "Tri" watch function where you can go use other recreational channel (68, 69, 71, 72, 78) and still simultaneously "listen" to 16. That fulfills your legal obligation.

The "fishing" channels varies from lake to lake, but most people chat on the recreational channels listed above. Use your scan function and you will find out what channel the anglers "hang out" on.

Thanks, Dave. I was wondering about that myself.

To Dave M, you are partially correct about channel 16. If you have a COMMERCIAL Marine License, you are required to monitor channel 16, not if you're recreational. Channel 16 is designated as the calling channel and for emergency use, should you need the services of the Coast Guard or other means of rescue. I agree that it is a good idea to monitor Ch. 16, just in case you can come to the assistance of anyone needing help, but there is not a law that says you have to monitor it. Marbravo

I am a stripper guide on Lake Texoma and I need good dependable communications. I've got an ICOM 402 and Shakespeare Galaxy 5225 Antenna. I am completely satisfied with both.
If you want to know exactly how antennas, etc. work, try to get ahold of a West Marine Catalog. They have explanations on several items throughout the book.

Marbravo is quite correct--I have a FCC GROL license. Like he said its still good to monitor it especially on a lake as large as Texoma cause you would hope that someone would if you ever needed help.
