Took of early to have things ready when school got out ( me and the 9 year old picked up about 30 good sandies on Tuesday, had to go back), let the boy bring a friend..Put in at the broken down ramp at Robertson, knew better, the wind was blowing right into it. 4 hours, 2 small fish, just couldn't find them, wind kicked up, took a beating (17 foot Bass Tracker), tried to load the boat with the wind REALLY hitting the ramp now, boat got stuck on the concrete curb, broke the railing on the boat and I think my butt when I fell trying to get it off before the waves sunk it, scared the kids...AND, got the batteries charging to GO BACK TOMORROW AFTERNOON!!!! The peanut was dead and couldn't do any good around the bridges, can anyone tell a newbie where I might look tomorrow for some sandies to save face with my kid? Not to mention MY pride.....LOL

If I were you I would check around Robertson Park at day break - the sandies have really been hanging out there first thing. But keep an eye out on the Peanut - they have been known to go crazy early in the morning and stay around for quite some time.

Just don't let one bad outing ruin your thoughts of the Peanut - it will almost always hold fish. Just gotta find the depth and presentation they are looking for. If you can catch a few shad at the boat ramp before going out that will dramatically increase your chances of catching fish.

Word of advice on the launch ramp - Zion is so easy to get in and out of the boat - especially with smaller guys. Just be a little careful when getting into the main water - there's a few stumps and trees that will get you if you're not paying attention.

I'll be out there with my dad tomorrow morning as well. Maroon Tige with two guys having a ball - fish or not...

Where can I get shad on Hubbard in the mornings????

I don't trust a catfisherman who doesn't have shad scales on his hands or his reels...period.

You'll definitely need to get out before first light. Most of the boat ramps have areas that are good for shad. If you'll notice which way the wind is blowing and go find a ramp or some rip/rap that faces the wind (i.e. wind blowing into the bank) that will be money for you almost every time.

My favorite is the Zion boat ramp or, if the wind is blowing from the north or west, the ramp just north of I-30 on the west side of Dalrock. Don't be afraid to throw your cast net in the same spot/area several times. It's all about timing and it only takes one good throw to make your day sometimes.
