OK what do y'all think about this? I fished T-wak Sat. and Sun. Morn. Got to the Dam at 7:00a both days got our share of sandies and left. Question is, Did anyone else see the sandbass right up on the rocks. I witnessed several occasions where the female would get on top of a wide rock in less than a foot of water and the smaller males would put his head against female belly and push, with tail slashing water on the surface. I know there were carp and gar rolling in the deeper water behind us, BUT those were sandbass in the middle of spawn up right in the rocks at the surface. As we caught the fish the males would be ooozing that baby making milk all over the boat. I wonder if the 30 baots we saw INCLUDING myself is gonna hurt the future fishing? I have never seen this as such a definite pattern for as long as it is happening.

sounds like spawning to me. I always understood that the whites needed some fairly specific conditions in rivers to successfully spawn and for the yourg to survive. I know they spawn on the rocks and on shallow points but tot he eggs and young survie? I'm not positive but I would think that even though these fish may succeed in fertilizing eggs the eggs don't make it to hatch or the eggs and young are picked off by other predators.

Regardless, the white bass fishery in most lakes can sustain a tremendous harvest. Tawakoni in particular has a huge forage base and therefore good success in young fish getting big. The harvest may actually help the white bass population as a whole. Many crappie lakes produce quality fish only when the harvest or predation is adequate to cull the herd. That doesn't mean they can't be overfished I doubt we are near capacity on Tawakoni.
