I have an 91 cajun boat. Could I put in the ocean and if so what would I have to do once I pulled it out?

Wash her off good and flush the motor with fresh water.

What kind of trailer do you have? Steel, Galvanized or Aluminum? If steel then I'd re-think that plan. Once that steel trailer goes in the brine it will be done. The cancer will eventually eat it up.

Also, does your boat have sealed electrical connections. Once salt water spray gets to those you'll have electrical problems.

Not sure what Cajun you have but the bass boats probably don't have sealed connections. I'm not sure though. Better check on it before a briny dunk.

Best thing would sell it as soon as you got home, because you just killed it. Trailer, wiring, troll motor will all die an ugly death, no matter how much you think you wash it out.

Back in the early 80's I went to LLM with a bud, we caught fish like crazy, enough that I *had* to get back. I was mostly bass fishing then, all I had was a ranger bass boat. I took it down three times in three months, thoroughly washing it every trip.

Six months later I had to replace the trailer, and redo most of the wiring in the boat.

I once bought a steel table for my place in Port A; thinking it's powder coated steel and should last. 8 months later, I go to move the table, and the legs crumbled like it was made of chalk.

Another involved stainless lamp that rusted, etc., etc.... And these are things that don't get put into the saltwater.

For your boat & trailer; unless it was made for saltwater submersion, it is doomed to the same fate. Even galvanized trailers, you need to make sure that water doesn't get trapped in the tubes and will rust from the inside out. The good galvanized trailers are made without any hollow cores (u-tube, I beams) to allow the saltwater to drain properly.

I don't recommend putting your boat into the saltwater. You'd be better off in a kayak, hiring a guide, of fishing from the banks.
Good luck,

I wasn't aware that Aluminum trailes float... I have a friend with an Al trailer and doesn't seem to have that problem.

Aluminum is heavier than water. By itself it does not float. They might float from the air in the tires though.
