Hi, I'm going with a couple novice anglers out to the hill country in a couple days for some perch jerkin, so in your opinion what rivers have the best combination of accessibility, wadeability, and fishability to help my friends cut their fly fishing teeth?

thanks for all recs!

Always the guad I guess. All the water is up right now so even a smaller river like the San Gaberiel might need to be floated to be fished efficently. I could be wrong though.

It's more than the catfish would do.

My vote goes to the Llano. Stay in Castell at the Liefeste campgrounds. The general store also rents kayaks and does shuttle services as well. Randy is a great guy and the often have someone playing music at the store.

Swam in it as a kid. Clear beautiful cypress lined from what I recall but haven't been near it in quite sometime.

I fish the Medina at least once a year. Its full of Guads and Rio's. Its a beautiful river but it is cooler than most so the fishing remains slow until late May.

"Slower" maybe. 15 bass is still a fun day (and this was about a month ago)- http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/forums...rip-report.html

The Guadalupe at Waring is alot of fun also.

My vote is for South Llano in Junction. There are many spot easily accessible. I recommend camping at Morgan Shady Park. I love that river and that town!

I hit the frio and medina this past weekend. I would recommend the medina river, i caught lots of perch, and 10 or so guadalupe bass. the river is awesome. I fished near bandera.
