I just called Browders Marina and they are reporting the water has gone down a lot, but all 12 gates are open at the spillway. The boat ramp is accessible on the west and east side. They reported anglers catching blue cats while trolling and slow bites on the whites.

Anyone still going this week?

Not goin this week. Went today and caught 50 whites and 20 blues. Remember you will need a large or really heavy anchor.

Are all of the gates still open? I know that it is still a little early for them to school so did you catch the whites trolling?

Thursday, I launched from Point Blank about 07:45. The best part about that trip was the ride there and the ride back. The wind was blowing about 15-20 mph out of the south south-east on the lake. I got in the water and head directly in the wind. Oh my goodness. I cant say slow and steady, but I can say slow and wet. I had a map that showed a small cove with a creek 2-3 miles south on the west side of the lake. What a bear to get to. Once I got to the cove, I was able to get out of the wind. I caught 5 cats on cut shad. No bass. Had some lunch on the boat and got the heck off the lake.

Friday, I went to the spillway. I got in the water about 8:00. Water temp was 59 degrees. Every gate was open and the wind was howling. It might have been 12-15 boats already on the water. I needed some shad, so I went over to the west spur first. While I was back there, my fish finder screen was full, so I put down my trolling motor and fished awhile. I kept 17 cats and threw back about 30 because they were small. The gnats were furious back there. My wife could not take it anymore. Made my way up to the spillway and could not get anchored. I caught two whites on the Westside up near the spillway within an hour. It was too much work trying to maintain a position in that spillway current, plus watch out for other boaters that were drifting. It seemed like a line was forming with boaters trying to get in that area. About 12:30 I was done and ready to get off the water with a live well full of cats and two whites in a cooler. I saw a lot of familys bank fish with kids near the east ramp. The day started out like it wanted to rain, but the sun came out partial and it was a beautiful day to be on the water.

Those knats were really bad over by the shoot.
Bhawk, what kinda boat were you in yesterday. Me and a friend were out there and left about the same time with our limits.

I did see you guys out there . You left right before we did. The last time we saw you was when you were in the middle fishin. We were in a white Kenner Center Console. Has 2COOL on each side of the console.

Ok, Ok, I remember seeing your boat. Your boat was just off my port side and a green flat boat was off my starboard side. Does that sound about right? A few beers later that evening, all the boats kinda look alike. LOL!

i am thinking of taking my kayak or pontoon there tomorrow... what are the best lures and is the current slow enough to anchor up?

The flow has dropped in half. Be really careful not to hit any rocks or run aground and look out for that hugh stump. Unless you go and fish the cable you should be able to anchor.

We fished Fri. we tried everything ( slabs, jigs worms, minnows under a float,) we started cating catfish on minnows with a small weight letting it float down with the current. Caught 43 catfish 1 whitebass. Water temp was about 64 deg. We were anchored in the middle, about 50 Ft off the cable in some slower water. We had water moving on both sides of us.

Lots of blues down there and plenty of whites. I hope everyone knows there is a 10 fish limit on cats (no more than 2 over 24 inches) and a 2 fish limit on stripers and or hybrids( 18 inch minimum) per person. I am not saying anything agianst blue skeeter, he may have had 10 people with him but I just wanted to remind people about this. The 2 per person on stripers is the one that gets most people.
.
Blue skeeter the other day down there if you used a small weight and found some kinda calm water in the middle you could catch all you water in blues. Sound like you guys got some good eattin.
.
Again I just wanted to remind people of the special requirements on blues, stripers, and hybrids below the dam.

i went yesterday, caught my limit of Whites,I caught at least 75 fish but i only kept 25 14-16" slabs in about an hour. Then tried cat fishing up at the cable, hardly any luck. caught 6 then went back down river for some catch and release on the white bass. parks and wild life was there shocking the stripers. pretty neat! Game wardens checked me. I did have some people tell me the day before that it was 25 catfish, I knew it was 10 but why argue, but i am glad that the wardens weren't there that day. They would have been in a bind.
