I am considering buying a Bass Cat Couger w/ a 225 on the back. The Bass Cat folks tell me that the tow weight will be around 4000 lbs when boat is loaded w/ gas, equipment, etc. I plan to tow it w/ a Honda Pilot, which has an advertised tow capacity of 4500 lbs. So finally here's the question: Anybody out there with a similar situation? Any thoughts, reactions, personal experiences, and the like would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

more important is what does the pilot weigh? even with brakes on the trailer something that is only half the weight of whats being towed is gonna have a hard time stopping it. this can get real hairy on wet roads and panic stops due to fishtailing of the boat.

It all depends on what you are expecting out of your Pilot. Chances are that it will be low on pulling power but, will it tow it yes. I have a Puma that I tow with a 250 Super Duty Diesel. It will yank it every which way you want. It will also stop. This is very important! I also tow my Puma time to time with a Jeep Wrangler. It too, will pull it. It is the stopping that gets to be a different story. I usually only pull it from my boatstall to the ramp which is 1 mile away. I have actually had the boat pull me down a slick ramp. That was very unnerving. I am sure the Pilot will pull the boat. I too, am concerned about the stopping power. Also, I feel sure the Pilot will be maxxed out so, don't expect to be doing a lot of passing.

It will not last, the 4L30-E transmission is not made for towing the weight of a bass boat.
When in doubt SET THE HOOK!
