Well after 17 years of smoking, I have decided to give it up. Have gone 11 days now and am actually having a pretty easy time of it. If I get the craving, I jsut pop in a piece of Trident and it's all good. Hopefully it stays as easy as this, but decided to join the group to get more tips.

Best tip I can give you is:

N.O.P.E. = Not One Puff Ever

There will come a day when your mind will try to trick you into having a drag / puff...... I can guarantee you that will be when you start smoking again. If it never hits your lips - you're good.

Don't get complacent - addiction is serious business - your mind will trick you to "have just one" and then you'll buy a pack - then you'll buy a carton - then you'll be back where you started....

Keep on going. Nicotine is evil, Just when you think you are past it. Bam! It hits like a ton of bricks out of nowhere. Keep doing the things you have done to keep your quit.

Day 57

Alright friends been smoking 49 years and I'm 58,so I hope this is it.Dr. gave me Chantix,does it work or should go cold turkey.Thanks friends.

Flounder it works... Just make sure you take it in the middle of a meal. Some people are prone to nausea. And the wierd dreams can be funny at times. It's how I quit. As of today I am working on day 58 two days shy of two months.

Anything will work if you want it to - from reports, Chantix reduces the cravings making it easier for some to quit - my BIL wanted to keep taking the Chantix 'cause he was enjoying the dreams so much.

IMHO - it has a LOT more to do with the "want to" than the "how to" Me, I just got finished with 2 1/2 days in a truck - by myself - used to be, I'd've smoked 5 packs of death-sticks in that amount of time. This time I continued the quit 'cause I "want to". BTW - I'm 61 - been smoking about as long as you have - you _can_ do it.

3 weeks last Friday. So far so good, and the cravings are not bad at all. Getting my wife to quit as well. She doesn't smoke much, but figured if I could get her to quit with me it would really help us support each other.

1 month today!!! been easy so far!
