Went to Hubbard Saturday--tried to find bait ( gizzards or threads ) got blanked...So no kitties or hybrids
So I tried my hand at trying to catch the green fish.
While fishing in the shallow water I noticed something odd. I saw 5 sandbass, 2 giant buffalo, 1 8-9 lbs bass, 3 channel cats and 1 giant gizzard --either floating dead or just cruising blind just under the water surface . They all have a fiburous grey fungus on them..in spots on their bodies ..and some have it on their eyes and gills.
This worries me...have you guys seen this also? Is this why there are no shad around ? Did we have a major fish kill?
I remember a lot of buffalo dead on the lake last summer... Just sayin...

You should report this to TPWD. Let us know what you find out.

I know what you are talking about,,, I did the same thing, I could not catch any sandies or hybrids so i went LM Bass fishing. I noticed the same thing, I was in some shallow water and saw huge bass that were just below the water and they looked like they had greyish spots and blemishes on them,, I thought this was the way they are due to me not knowing anything really about bass. Hope we dont have a problem here. What bothers me is I see all the other lakes turning on but hubbard aint doing anything like the other lakes.

Got boat slip this weekend at Harbor Bay. Went down yesterday morning and saw a big largemouth cruising in the dock (7-8 lbs) and also noticed it had some fungus/growth on her back and on fins. Just spots/patches on it. Man I hope something is not going on.

Subject needs to say: Lake Ray Hubbard. There is another Lake called Hubbard. I reported the reports above to the "Kills and Spills Team" office at Waco. I talked to Jennifer Bronson there and she got on this TFF thread and we reviewed the reports above.
She said she would get on this and also forward this info to the Ft. Worth "Inland Fisheries" Office.
She took my name and phone number and said she would give me a follow-up report.
I called the Game Warden office in Garland, but none were in, so they told me to call the Inland Fisheries office.

Jennifer Bronson in the "Spills and Kills" regional office of TPWD called me back.
They ask that TFF fisherman do the following: 1) Take pictures of fish with the 'fungus' dead or alive. 2) Post the pictures on this Thread so the Biologists can review.

UPDATED REPORT from TPWD Biologists:
Ft. Worth District Biologist called this morning. They are on their wasy to Lake Ray Hubbard to investigate the reported 'fungus covered' fish. We have 2 reports of infected LMB sited at Marinas. The biologists are going to focus on trying to net some samples at Ray Hubbard Marinas. The most recent reported was seen Saturday at Chandlers Landing. Monday, one was sited at Harbor Bay. Both of those Marinas will be checked.
Because of the high winds today, the biologists are going to check only Marinas, today.
Ryan,thanks for your report.
Everyone, If there are specific areas you would lke the Biologist to check, please PM to me so I can forward if you do not wish to post on this thread.
Biologist are monitoring this thread for your reports.
