Pennzoil Premium Plus meets the engine warranty requirements for all major brands and is considerably cheaper. 2.5 gallons at Academy for $30.

Hope you have had good luck with this oil...I know several guys that have blown power heads using Pennzoil. I used Mercury Premium Plus when I ran Yamahas because it burned a lot cleaner than Yamalube. I run Mercurys now and still burn the Premium Plus. Its just great oil!

Was it because of the oil or is that just a common denominator between the guys and yall are suspecting the oil?

I'm not referring to the penzoil part of the statement. I'm referring to the use of Merc Premium Plus in Yamahas.
I ran Merc Premium PLus in a Yammie Vmax OX66 150 and NEVER hd a single problem with the motor.
I don't kow anything about Penzoil - I've never used it. I should've been more clear in my original post.
Apologies,
-Alton

Motors have and will blow up using any and all kinds of oil because not all failures are oil related. Carbon, lean fuel, bad fuel, water intrusion from head gasket or exhaust plate and not letting motor get to operating temp before hammering it are just a few. I personally like the Premium Plus Pennzoil.

I have always used the cheapest oil in my outboards and have never had a motor problem. My current Yamaha 200 is 5 years old with a lot of hours. My other 2 Yamaha 150, never an issue.
I don't think Yamaha makes oil, but buys it from someone else and puts their label on it. It could be Pennzoil for all I know.

Amsoil HP Injector oil. You'll have less carbon buildup, less plug fouling, less smoke on start up.

BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN MIXING OILS IN THE TANK. Not all oils are compatible with another. Mixing oils can cause the oil to gel in the tank therefor clogging up the pickup line in the tank causing the engine to run out of oil I.E. Mercury Premium Plus and Mercury D.F.I. oil {the brownish stuff} WILL GEL in the oil system also Yamalube and Mercury premium plus will gel . I tell customers to completely drain the oil tank in the boat and on the engine before changing oil brand just in case.

What kind of prices do you guys find on Quick Silver Premium plus by the gallon? It seems like this stuff has shot up several bucks wholesale on our end.
