I re-decked and carpeted an old Panfish 16 a few years back and it took me 2 weekends. A point think about, I was told to use exterior grade or marine plywood. I used the exterior. I was guided away from pressure treated woods because the adhesives will not stick to it very well. I have read here in the forums that holds true for the spray in liners as well.

I just finished re-carpeting a 16.5' Bass Tracker for a guy here on TFF. You are exactly right, it is a TON more work than it appears. While there are a lot of screws in the construction, most all of the lids are riveted in, as are the clasps on top of the lids. ALL of the carpeted pieces are wrapped around the edges. The only way to do a CLEAN job is to dismantle the entire interior. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 214.450.6665

Bob,
Thanks for the complement. I am flattered. It never surprises me when someone actually starts to work on thier own boat and realizes it is MUCH more work than they first thought and realized before they started.
Do a search in the Boat and Motor section for a post from Clifford Taft. We took the carpet out of the boat on his center console boat and replaced it with a factory style gelcoat floor. It turned out awsome. We even showed his ways he could do a lot of the work himself and cut the repair costs in half.
