I'm a south Texas fisherman so I never did any dropshotting. I want to give it a try at Amistad. I throw a spinning reel there alot but don't know if my rod is the right action. Are the specialty rods medium or med-hvy or what. My spinning rods are med action.

http://www.kistlerrods.com/p/KR/c-magnesium-ts-fishing-rods/MgFS69S.htmlmedium hvy with a fast action tip. You want something that's going to have back bone, but is light and super sensitive. I had a shimano dropshot rod for a little while but took it back after my second one broke, I really like the kistlers, I reeled in the fish in my sig with that rod. Can't beat a Shimano Stradic MGFB as a DS reel.

I have a Shimano crucial 7'2" drop shot rod and a stradic 2500 and for shallow water I have it in a 6'8" and use a stradic 2000. 6 to 10lb test flouro depending on what I'm fishing for structure or cover.

i prefer a med versus a med-hvy. I bought a med-hvy last yr and didnt like it at all. The med seems to be more sensitive. If you buy a high dollar rod maybe the med-hvy is a better option but if you are looking for something under $100 i would go with a Medium. good luck

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll try my medium rods and see how they work. They are only 6'6" so I might eventually have to go to a longer rod.

Shimano Crucial drop shot rod is hard to beat. Great rod and the bait keeper is at the base of handle, perfet for hooking the wieght and everything is out of the way. They even make 2 drop shot bait cast rods that make good shakey head or wackey worm rods.I have 6 of these rods and love them.Plus over the counter return policy if you break one.
