Been reading allot about Texoma on the 6OG board and on this one, but not real certain of what end of the lake is the best this time of year.I have fished the lake several time before with good success due to great advice from the guides on the lake and others. Heading up this weekend taking my best friend and fishing partner,Dixie my wife and am looking to narrow down the lake a bit maybe with some advice from all the great folks on this board and 6OG! flehan flehan I have seen comments about the Islands, the flats and both bridges? Are they all picking up or is one area just a little hotter than the other? I will be fishing artificial's, top water and slabs,,,Thanks for any help on you may provide!

God Bless!

Zero, this past week end in the afternoon, the birds were starting to get somewhat active.

We didn't do much in the mornings but the afternoon seemed to be pretty good.

I found a lot of fish stacked in Mac Creek but we caught them on live bait as they would not hit a slab.

We also caught fish in a couple of other areas that JD and Mark put us on. Since they told me where to go for that bite, I'm not a liberty to broadcast the locations but I'd just say look for the birds.

I'd say that if you launched at Highport, you'd be about mid-way for all the action.

Afternoon bite was better for us than the morning. I think it's the moon phase that is causing that.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

PS: Fish are hitting smaller lures. 1 ounce slabs and small top waters.

What he said, lol. When we were there 2 weekends ago afternoon bite and evening bite seemed to me to be better than the morning. Or maybe we were just more awake, lol. We also had best luck with smaller slabs from 1 to 1.5oz, 2oz caught fish but not as well as the smaller ones. We used artficial the whole weekend and did very well. But I am sure the full moon this past weekend did not help matters. Plus two weekends ago was right on the heels of a cold front. We fished mostly between the bridges, didnt get any big fish but several over 20 inches. Vary your retrieves on the slabs, sometimes they wanted it burned through the water, other times hitting on the drop. Find the birds and you will be in them. We actually would beat the water at times like the live bait fishermen like to do,and they would come in and start nailing the slabs. Cant help you out on top water bite, and I am sure it will pick up all over as it gets cooler. Best of luck.

I think ya'll are right about the moon phase this weekend. This ain't Texoma, but me and my fishing buddy Rudy Lackey (Ray Roberts guide) started out bass fishing Sunday on RR. Caught a very few bass early. Checked out a consistent sand bass spot, a tree line on a channel in 34' of water, with slabs about 9 am. NADA! Came back to the exact same spot about 1:30 pm and they were there and hungry! We caught 'em for a solid 2 hours on silver/white 1 oz Lil River minnow slabs. Most of 'em hard pulling magnums, too! Probly caught 50-60 apiece. (Oh yeah, I caught a little ol' channel cat, too!) They seemed to be circling. We'd catch several in just a few minutes, then we'd go maybe 10 minutes without a bite, then we'd start catching 'em every drop again. We left 'em still biting about 3:30.

Anyway, the moon phase is why me and a work buddy booked our Texoma striper trip with JD on 29 October. I can hardly wait banana !! I'm hoping for 1 or 2 cool/cold fronts between now and then.

This week during this Full moon the bite has been good for about an hour at first light but been definately better later in the day. Ive had 2 late afternoon trips the last few days and we hammered them from 5 pm till dark all on slabs. I cant tell you why but the evening fish have been bigger than the morning fish...
I havent got much after about 10-3 pm this week. I think the bait guys have been doing ok then but Ive had all lure trips this week.
the top watre bite has been prety much non existant. we need another cold front to get them back shallow. The water temps are still rising.. Mid Oct and the temps rising... Go figure
Theres literally fish all over the lake right now. West is good.. mid lake and North are all good. Birds are everywhere and the last couple days began working a little harder.

JD I plan on being on the water Friday morning early using slabs or top waters no live bait. Are the stripers schooling under the birds or are there sandbass with stripers below the feeding fish. This will be my first trip to Texoma this year and maybe my last for the year. Hope to be successful I live in Sachse Texas and it is almost a 3 hour drive to the lake. I know gas is going to eat me alive, but if the fish are biting it will be worth the trip. Thanks Gene

the fish are schooling under the birds. There are some sandies but not many mixed in with the stripers. birds will generally quit about 10ish then you'll have to find them the old fashioned way.
Slabs and small coho 's are working just fine. work the cohos slow under the small schooling fish
I have noticed that in deep water a big 2 oz slab works great but in shallow water 20 feet or less downsize to about a 3/4 to 1 oz slab for better results.

CHAMPION FISH,

Don't fill up before going to Lake Texoma. Fuel is much cheaper up there (not on the lake). I purchased it for about $2.45 gallon, so if you top off your truck and your boat there, you may actually save money compared to this area.
