The force of water flowing over it could break it. If it does you'll hear it hitting the transom - that is, if your's is cracked where mine broke - where part of it was still in the bracket and the actual "puck" part was attached to the cable.

I epoxied it back together, worked for awhile but broke again. This time I fixed it with some 3m gel superglue. Then I wrapped it with some fiberglass threads & glued those on. I tried hard as I could to pull it apart but couldn't. Seems to be holding.

It still functions as good as ever. Except that on the first repair I got some epoxy down on the face, thought I should clean it off so I grabbed the only solvent I had on hand - methyl ethyl ketone. Don't put that stuff on your transducer! Now the face is all roughed up, and at cruising speed it doesn't draw the bottom contour - still shows the digital depth reading, though. I'm going to try coating it with epoxy.

danceswithquail, thanks for the info. I look forward to trying it out later this week. I'll let you know how I do.

I drove over each of the 5 humps I fish over there twice Saturday morning, and never saw anything worth stopping for. Hopefully they will be back in there later in the week. I plan on taking some guys out from my work on Thursday afternoon. Seems like if you can find them hanging on one of the Rock Crusher humps, you can stay on them quite awhile.
