Not big numbers but big individuals this morning on Braunig. Caught 9 from 3 to 5#'s. Reed beds in upper end near old grandstand.

I was out there this morning also. I kept three from three to four pounds and one hybrid.
I didn't fish the reed beds, only the outlet and along the jetty and dam a little, but it seems I was fishing too deep.
Oh well, it was my first trip out there in over a year, so maybe next time I'll find some fish.
Just one more cast!

I really like the size of those cats on Braunig. We may have to start a Braunig catman get-together!!

may be a fall get together, when it has cooled a little. It would be fun.

Braunig is a good lake for size but as the Alien once said to me, "It can be very humbling at times,"

Braunig is a good lake for size but as the Alien once said to me, "It can be very humbling at times," Said the same thing to my fishing partner I took out there the other day. It was his first trip and I went to all my old spots and nada. I couldn't even lose a bait, and when they don't hit Marv's something is wrong. Could have been the high pressure that was positioned directly over us on monday, or I just wasn't holding my mouth right. Anyway we did manage to not get skunked, but Calaveras is a lot more user friendly, when you are at least hoping to get your line pulled.

This is the best time of the year for shallow cats and hybrids. I like to freeline shad as close to tree stumps as I can get them. I have literally seen the backs of the fish as they were going after the bait.
So like Jimbo said, Calaveras is more willing to give up numbers, but the big pull often comes from Braunig.

Uncle Jess, I've been out with Cliff on Braunig a few times and I have to say that the quality vs quantity is outstanding. Cats are just bigger on Braunig. I'm glad that you have posted. Haven't heard from you in awhile!!! Steven

That was my trip with Cliff! You always hear stories about how someone has a line over a stump and the fish still bites....now we have proof! We didn't get it on video, but I just reeled the cat over the stump and into the boat. That was a good day! Steven

Here's another vid of our catch on another trip with Cliff at Braunig. That night, I landed two 8 plus pound channels back to back. The second one was 8.14lbs. It would have beaten the lake record at the time for a channel, but it went in my belly instead! Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/user/Steven21dc#p/a/u/1/013n-2jAiTw

...and one last vid. This was another night out at Braunig with Cliff and JSB91010. It was another productive night. We left them biting because Cliff had school the next morning and I wanted him to get his beauty sleep. Another satisfied customer! http://www.youtube.com/user/Steven21dc#p/a/u/2/B-vDHQSNrHA
