When do y'all go to a drop shot rig in preference to other methods like a texas rigged worm or a spinnerbait?

Is the drop shot rig mostly for winter? Best used at night or in the day?

Thanks.

I an not a pro on the drop shot technique, but I have caught plenty of fish on it. I like to use it when the fish are finnicky around docks, rocks, even open water around submerged structure. I tie a palomar knot to my hook and then run it back through the eye of the hook to keep the hook pointing up and out. then tie on the weight. Vary your length between your hook and the weight for specific depths or bottom composition (i.e mud, decaying vegetation, rock, clay).
As far as time to use it, I use it when I know the fish are relating more to structure, after a good cold front, or when I am not having much luck with a t-rig or C-rig. Just gives them something off the bottom and sometimes that is all it takes to get bit. Use as light a weight as you can get away with, and you should be good to go. Hope this helps!

Dana

when I want to catch a fish for sure...haha

its highly successful, but will catch alot of small fish, with potential to catch big fish.

I like it on deep water structure when the bit is tough, or around 45 degree banks around docks.

Caught her tonight on dropshot

I use it year round, some times of year are better than others but I do fish other techniques as well but my top fish have been caught on it and I have won tournaments with it.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to start giving this method a try as soon as the wind lets up ( I fish from a canoe or float tube)!
