I have had both types of trolling motors. I will never use anything else except Minnkota.
I actually love their foot control. The shaft is flexible and will not perminately be bent if it hits something. Still have my original Minnkota since 1998

I would not use anything but motorguide ! I have had mine for years, and it has been abused and misused, and keeps on trucking! The MK's I've seen seem to have more plastic parts to go wrong or strip out ...they just don't seem as durable to me...just an opinion, never had one!!!

Can anyone compare the Terrova with the Maxxum?
I love my MG, but it needs to go, and I hated my Terrova. All was well except it was so darn difficult to tilt the footpad forward. Is the Maxxum foot control the same as the Terrova?

MK FORTREX is even that much better then the MK MAXXUM. I have had MG BRUTE, MK MAXXUM and MK FORTREX. If you can afford the Fortrex get it. Worth the money. As mentioned above the 101 will get after it, will hold in any wind just like this last weekend and will chop throu the most dense of any jungle like Glade far north end. Would not have anything else.

Sorry I didn't mention how great the assist lift is on the MK. It really lightens the load when lifting and lowereing the unit.

I used to fish for a living and have run both trollingmotors. Kelly Jordon is the one who convinced me to switch over the MinnKota and it was the right move. MinnKota makes a much better trollingmotor. I ran the 80lb Maxxum for a year and after watching Clark Wendlandt at Okeechobee cutting through the gator grass and Hyacinths, I called my dealership and ordered the 101.

bill the terrova is not near the motor that maxxum is. they are different motors. The maxxum is a cable steer motor. The terrova does not have the steering response. The pedal is different all togethor.

Just upgraded from a MG to a Maxxum 74 and used it for the first time this past Saturday on Hubbard and it was awesome. I will never go back to a MG. My MG gave me nothing but trouble and was no where to be found when the wind blew. I agree with that the foot control is a little different but still wouldn't go back to MG.
