I rarely use my cranbaits or jerkbaits , but it seems like I face the same problem over and over again every year. These dang hook's keep rusting up on me. Has anyone discovered a method to stop this besides going all stainless or saturating with WD40?

Get a better storage box.

Mine never rust, I use a Falcon FTO Box, but I would think most any brand would work

Are you fishing saltwater?

Denny,

go into the classifieds and check out the Wheel-A-Bait crankbait box. I have a video and pics posted.

When you are done fishing a bait, the bait goes in your box and sits in water and moisture, causing the hooks to rust and the finish on the baits to ruin.

On the Wheel-A-Bait, the bait slides into a bait tray - the hooks and bait dangle freely in the tray, allowing the whole bait to air dry. Your hooks don't rust and your finish lasts alot longer.

Check it out and let me know what you think - I'll take it back up to the top this morning.

I found that after I use a crank to let it sit out for a bit and let it dry. No hooks rusting for me.

I also put the little packets of the stuff that comes in electronics and such in mine. One small packet per box and it alleviates any moisture issues.

All of mine just end up in the front of my boat by the front depth finder until I get through for the day. Never have a problem with them rusting. i agree with the above post. just let them dry before storing and the problem is solved.

Good luck.

Spread a half a box of toothpicks around the box, they soak up the moisture and havent had any rust since i been doing that, several years now.

I use the little plastic containers that you would find in a medicine or vitamin bottle. Its full of dessicant, which soaks up moisture. Works 4 me.
