Our family has a pond in NE texas and its about an acre in size. However, its almost impossible to fish. I took a small 12 ft boat to the middle and shoved a tree branch into the water to see how deep it was. To my astonishment it was over 8 ft deep (probably deeper, thats how long my stick was) which means that the stuff is about 5 ft tall or longer. How can i remove this without breaking the bank?

first we need to know what type of vegetation it is. Do you have any pictures of it?

I'd think twice about the aquashade. It has some serious side effects to the plankton base.

For regular old moss I have seen the farmers in the blackland area just throw a bail of hay in the tank to clear it up.

Not sure how that will work where you are, but its cheap enough if it does.

Have you priced hay lately? shocked Just kidding but it has gotten pricey lately. In my area, I've seen $70 round bales and up.

I've used excess hay as you advised many times over the years and have had some success in terms of improving water visibility but little effect on algae or submerged vegetation. It does provide some nice "structure" for small critters to hang out and multiply.
