whent out to reimers today to chech it out and look for a few whites. first of the river was really low, about 5 foot low. many spots would have been good had there been some water in them. i fished from dawn till about 1:30 with almost everything i could think of and still got nothin. i tried 1/8 oz blue/chrome ratltraps, small fin-s shad, storm swimbaits, roadrunners, roostertails, littel suspending crankbaits, panther martins, most colors were either white of chartreuse. i couldent cast the little jigs out into the deeper parts b/c it was so shallow. i say one white trail my Fin-s in but thats it. are they running yet, or is it too early/shallow? or am i just doing somthing wrong? thanks for the imput. Wyatt-

Reimer's is still open?! That's great...heard a rumor that it might be closed to the public. As far as the whites go, all the reports I've gotten from fellow anglers is that pretty much the only place that the whites are moving right now is above Buchanan...but the biologists think that it is a mock run. This cold spell might delay that run even further, but I have never really had luck at Reimer's until mid-late Feb. All those baits that you used are in my arsenal as well, so I would say that patience is the key...Good Luck-

Well the reimers sold off most of the property to become a state park and hes only left with around 200 acres but ive heard you can still go down there. Ive heard the season wont be that long this year bc the river is super shallow in a few places before reimers so the whites are having trouble getting there. However, the crappie are there under dock lights, you can almost definitely catch some if the sandies arent biting. Keep me posted on when the run starts.

The important part pulled from the travis county website:
Travis County will begin operating the new park on December 1, 2005. Travis County Milton Reimers Ranch Park will mirror the operations of the other parks within the Travis County park system. This includes the rules associated with the parks such as prohibiting glass containers, ground fires, fireworks and firearms. The operating hours will also mirror the current operation of the park. The park will be open Thursday through Sunday, sunrise to sunset until December 31, 2005. On January 1, 2006 the park will be open 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. The park will be a full service park, staffed to insure the public safety, cleanliness and preservation of natural resources continues. A day use fee of $8.00 per vehicle will be in place at the park effective January 2, 2006. The Travis County Commissioners Court approved a waiver of the day use fees associated with the park until January 1, 2006 to allow the public to enjoy the new park.

Thanks for the info. on Travis County Milton Reimers Ranch Park. Where are these dock lights? Upstream from the parking or downstream? Never seen them before, but I have only been downstream on the bank. Think an inflatable pontoon boat with a trolling motor would make a day of fishing there more successful?

well they should be 5 to 7 miles(I know 2 miles is a long distance in river mileage) from the colorodo and perd. mixing point, on the perd., if my direction is right, but basically anywhere on the perd. under the docks and at night you should pick up 5 + crappie at minimum. I have not fished my float tube out there yet but its one of the first things on my list. I figure if a 10 ft jon boat does fine, then a pontoon boat should be good, but well just have to try it out and see. I would try fishing minnows before jigs, seem to work better on the perdenales but everybody has dif. oppinions. Maybe ill see you out there.
