Been fishing LMB most of my life ... never went after any whites/hybrids/sand/etc. Any suggestions for what to do differently?

I see lots of folks having good luck with the roostertails and rat-l-traps ... that still the case? If so, what colors?

Anybody throw any persuader lures in Somerville?

Anything else I should know is always appreciated ...

Thanks

White bass lure colors are gonna be white, silver and chartruce, maybe some yellow. I would include some chrome spoon types, like a Hopkins spoon, Kastmaster, and Pet. The good ol' Little George type lure is for when they are down deep, or you need to cast for distance.

When it warms up again, get to a lake point before the sun comes up, maybe wade out a little and carry your stringer. Nobody will care if you keep and eat a few white bass.....

LM bass fisherman.. think deeper and tighter schooling with larger numbers of fish. LM bass are more of a ambush predator while whitebass and stripers use their schooling and numbers to their advantage like herding sheep. Find the shad and you will find the whitebass not far away.

Thanks to you both ...

If you notice a foam on the water this weekend, that's just me - whipping the lake into a froth during my once a year, 4-day fishing marathon.

LMB you just got advice from, based on his threads, one of the best on Somerville (HL&S). I would add that if you are fishing from a boat, try trolling past areas where there is a submerged island or sand bar or point that the sand bass will "herd" bait up onto. Watch your depth finder and when you find the school you can set up shop and catch them on every cast or keep trolling the area. To bring back a point made by HL&S in previos thread, Since the sand bass need moving water to spawn (which is now on) and the creeks are pretty dry in Somerville, they seem to be in areas of the lake where wind driven current gives them the water movement. Remember that when looking for a starting point to troll. Have fun!

Well, thanks for the help ... we got skunked. Found out this morning that they were hitting on crawfish; which makes sense, 'cause we tried EVERYTHING but crawfish. Enough cats on the trot lines to eat some dinner, but no whites. Maybe next year ... thanks again.
