i was down a few weekends back, cruised over to carlos and spalding, there was zero wind, the water was crystal clear and fishing was tough. anyone know if this wind stirred it up any (in a good way)? i'll be heading down this weekend before the front, hoping for some good 7-12 winds and better water.

Anyone know?

Looks like milk chocolate in the back bays man. Non stop wind down here really has the bottom stirred. Haven't been out into the large bays..maybe try San Antonio bay or something with a good water exchange.

I was afraid of too much wind, I know it's been breezy down there

windy, cold, muddy water on a slack tide, well, I'll still give it hell, thanks for the report

any other words of advice? I bet the trout are still holding deep on mud, any movement on mid bay reefs? Reds will be found, I'm sure drum will be out and about as well... We shall see cheers

Was down there last weekend, copano looks like coffee, and low as well. Went out into aransas, water was still pretty clear, but the wind had it churned up enough to turn on the bite. Mainly got into blacks, good keepers, but only one keeper red.

WATCH OUT FOR THE J.T. HOOKSET!!!

I reported in the "copano bay" thread. I had most luck on a 4" salt assassin, shad shape (split tail), plum in color. We had to slow up the approach because the water temp was falling.

Supposedly cracked crab is working for reds.

thanks y'all, i may cover Carlos Bay to South Bay, who knows where i'll find them, but like mentioned before i will get 'em. had a buddy possibly back out, so my dad who doesn't normally fish this time of year (he hates waders) is next in line, once i get the word, off to academy to buy the old man some waders! i will go fishing this weekend!

....just not looking forward to pulling the boat home in 20+ north winds from a front moving through on sunday...poor gas gauge has never moved so fast.

Good luck Coco. Let us know how you do. Hey, if you want to see that gas gauge fly at supersonic then gimme a shout. I'll let you tote my 30ft high profile fifthwheel.

Well last minute the wind forcast went through the roof! I still went down there, but didn't take the boat. Drove down through Tivoli to copano bay to take a look and man was it rough, drove back over to seadrift, same story, by the time I got to Port Lavaca the winds settle down a hair, hit 87 back to San Antone and didn't even wet a line. Figured i'd look for crawfish, but no one had any hammer . I'll tell y'all though, the beautiful weather, wild flowers and green pastures all around sure made the drive worth it. Since everything is still locked and loaded, next weekend I'll try again! Sorry for the worthless report!

We fished Estes, Dagger and Shamrock the 26th and 27th. Water was stirred up pretty good. Still managed a few fish in the box working out of yaks.
5 anglers, 2 days, 6 keepers total. 5 reds and 1 trout.

If that north wind would quit for a while, the fishing should take off.

After a few days of a stout SSE wind, I came down to fish, no one wanted to come, so I did a lot of moving since it's easier with just one. Water is still very clear in the bay, especially on the San Jose shoreline. Dirty water in the back lakes, but damn fishing was tough with these east winds (4 trout and a red). Will try it again next weekend, tomorrow the winds should go back to normal from the south.

Oh, and you don't need waders in the shallower stuff, chest deep is a little cold. 72 was the average surface temp all alround the bay.

Been down here since Mon. Fishing has been tough. Water clarity is fair from Estes Cove to Estes flats. Somewhat churned up, some patches of mud. Surprising, considering 20-30 SSE winds on Tues. A few consecutive days of hard SSE winds before we got here did put some water back in the bay. Probably why water clarity isn't worse. Got on the redfish this afternoon late, ahead of the front. The Capt. and I boated 4 reds to 23". Never really tore it up, just good solid fishing on the flats. Wind is supposed to do an about face tomorrow, 20-30 from the N.

The pops and I have had the itch to get down to Port A for way too long, and planned on going this weekend, but after reading these posts it just does'nt sound very promising. Especially since we have'nt been down there in over a year, and for the most part don't know what the heck we're doing when we do go. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else though! Is it worth going, or should we wait until the water clears up? Thanks

I'm thinking this weekend the clarity issue should improve. Left today around 2:00 P.M. and the North winds were beginning to lay a bit. By the weekend the winds will have shited back from the SSE, most likely 10-20. That's not bad fishing weather for the coast.
